Check Engine Light

Our ML was left running during filling it up with gas. The Low Fuel light was flashing when we got back in, but ther was no check engine light. This was a couple days ago. We put some more gas in it and a couple hours later the check engine light came on. I've been reading that leaving the car running while feuling will set an alarm. I was wondering if this may be the casue of ours. I tried reseating the gas cap and restarting the car but it did not go away. It runs fine with now other issues that we can tell. There was at least 700 miles (road trip) put on the car before the CEL and the running refuel.

Thanks for any help.

Since it was associated with the blinking low fuel light, I would say that the open fuel cap while refuelling is what the check engine light is for. It may clear out on it's own, but it may take a week or two of normal driving before it does it, so you can try to go cheap and put up with it for awhile, or maybe there is aone of these "auto parts mega-stores" such as Autozone who will read and erase the code for you if you explain that this is what happened. many of these stores offer that service for free or a small tip.
