Heaven came to Texas Today
 

Texas is in the midst of the most unusual weather phenomenom I have ever experienced. Our high today in the Houston-Galveston coastal area where I live was 81 degrees, a tempature that has not been seen in August since the 19th Century, when a volcano blew up and lowered temps all over the world. This has been going on for two weeks. The humidity is also non-existent. Usually at this time of year in Houston, it is 105 degrees with 90% humidity, and everyone here hides in their house until September. I usually park my convertible for the summer, because the heat and humidity will wreck your interior and fade your paint. Today I took old 83 280SL on a long top down tour of Galveston Bay. There was an unbelievable cool breeze blowing all day. Cool, and not a cloud in the sky. In addition, for some other unknown reason, the usual muddy and nasty looking ocean water that laps the beaches of Galveston turned a beautiful sea green without a hint of mud. People here all are acting like they just smoked a really big joint of the best Hawaiin. If there is a definition of Mercedes Benz heaven, today was it.

81 degrees? Kinda HOT ain't it? I drive around in 20 degree weather with my windows down and a tee shirt on with a cold Mt. Dew. Sheeesh, turn on the A/C!

81° huh? We haven't had a temp that cool for a low in quite a while. Gotta love the heat -- bring it on!

We have only had two days over 100dF so far this year. Seems for the past couple/three years the summer temps have not been as bad as a few years ago.

Oh yeah Jim, they call that global warming ;) .

If that's heaven, maybe they should move Texas north. The Packers hate that long commute anyways. The Bears don't mind though, anything to get out of Chicago.

Yes, it has been a mild summer here in Atlanta as well...It was MUCH cooler than usual for most of last week.

Global warming seems kind of a peculiar idea right now. I don't know how long this will last, but every day we get of this gives us one less day of the big heat season. It is starting to make things around here downright surreal. The world has become one enormous barbecue and volleyball game. Its also knocked the mosquitos for a loop for some reason - it is like we have entered a wormhole into a strange new universe.

Oh,m the global warming thing is a cheap shot that I just couldn't pass by. Its like ol' Shoutin Al's major press conference on the global climate catastrophe of warming. Held in NYC. In a blizzard. You just gotta laugh sometimes.

But the reality is that when you're dealing with just a few degree difference in temp averaged over long time periods, you're going to have fluctations above and below the moving average. You'll just have a few more higher than lower, over the long term.

In many areas of the world, global warming may turn into a blessing. But in some places, we ain't gonna like it worth a flip. Like S TX and S LA. We're going to get range extensions on insects that are vectors for tropical diseases. Ther are a lot of them that most of us temperate folks never heard of but are pretty dang horrid.

Global warming? Bring it on! My property value could only increase if it goes beachfront.

You know, all the mesas you see as you drive from TX to AZ mark where the coast used to be when the planet was much warmer. Right at the TX/NM border, you can make it out clearly, where the coastline was, the offshore islands, all of it. The vast majority of Texas was under shallow water, just like the gulf is today off the coast of Texas. You might want to buy a further East if you want waterfront, around Tucumcari would work.

Same here. Not that I am complaining, but the unseasonably cool weather has been both heavenly and forboding at the same time. I can recall 3-4 days where we reached 90*, instead of the normal recalling of 3-4 days when it wasnt over 90*. Additionally, we havent had such a wet summer in all my life. The grass should be brown, but instead its more green than it is in April. I have to wear a jacket to ride my 'cycle at night!


What does this spell for winter? Bitterly cold and heavy heavy snows? I hope so;). Time to order those Nokians!
