Any appliance repair men out there...???
Gas dryer is fairly new. You can set the timer and the drum turns but no heat. Any ideas where to start?

I have had great luck fiddling with my appliances but the idea of screwing around with gas scares the bejeezus outta me. Do you know if the gas line running to the dryer is working? Next step would be the regulator. If it's a Sears/Kenmore brand they have a website with exploded parts views and prices. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. Screwing with anything doesn't scare me anymore. I guess I am just too frickin' cheap to pay someone to come and look at it. I just found an awesome website with a troubleshooting guide. After an hour or so of tearing it apart, some diagnostics and looking at the website I think I am ready to order a part.
good site for the DIYer www.repairclinic.com

Make sure the vent line is clear. The safety system cut the gas feed to the heater if there is insufficient exhaust flow.

How new is "fairly new"? Let a certified tech service it if it's still under warranty.
And buy a home appliance warranty if you haven't already...it's a whole lot more convenient that having vacation plans shot to hell because the A/C evaporator went south!

It is working! After a little more than an hour with an ohm meter and 2 trips to the parts place I got it working. It was the flame sensor. A little optical sensor that cuts the gas if there is no flame/ignition.
$35 later, I'm drying clothes again. That website is awesome!

Congrats. I figure if I can't figure something out with 20 moving pieces (or less) I don't stand a chance with my car.

My toaster stopped working and I must have spent an hour and a half taking it apart, inspecting it, finding the problem and fixing it. The line cord was broken where it went into the body. I dutifully cut the line cord and reassembled it. It worked great until the same thing happened later. So I went to Radio Shack and bought a new line cord and replaced the old one. My toaster now has a six foot line cord and I can put it just about anywhere in the kitchen.
I could have bought a new one for $9.95 or whatever they sell for now. A high quality unit made in China too. Frugal and Scottish go hand in hand.
