				Zen Buddhism and Terrorism

We're all familiar with the connection between Islam and terrorism. It doesn't take much effort to also find the connections between Judaism and Christianity and violence. But most people don't seem to connect Buddhism with terrorism. Here's an interesting corrective: http://www.acmuller.net/zen-sem/2004/victoria.html The piece is quite long (26 pages). It is a study of the role of Zen in political violence in Japan in the early part of the 20th century.

The cognitive dissonance to put "Bhuddist terrorist" in the same spot in my head is something like putting "anarchistic fascist" together or "anti-war peace protesters"* together. *meaning they are not peaceful, but violent.

Ted: The author of the paper has also written a book called Zen at War. I have not read it.
