Oil changes @ 7500 miles?

Consumer Reports, auto manufactures and many other's are recommending oil changes @ 7500 miles and I'm starting to agree with them.

Thoughts anyone?

I am already changing at 7500 on my Lexus and it has not been a problem.
I use Mobil1 Synthetic.

I've heard 5,000 - 10,000 for synthetic before, but not for dino juice. Interesting...

Since MB gave up the free service routine for 2005, they're saying that 13,000 miles is an acceptable interval with synthetics, and they assume that some owners will let it slide to 14 or 15,000 miles. It makes you think twice about buying a used 2005 and up MB, even one maintained by the book.

I go 7,500 with Mobil 1 or Redline, but I do mostly highway driving.

IIRC, it was 7500 miles for an oil change on regular oil for my 91 190E 2.6

I run that interval on my Prius. I am also using Mobil 1 for added insurance.

Afraid I'll never get out of the 3000 miles and out mode. The oil companies love people like me but it's like someone telling me not to change my underwear every day,,,, after all it's not worn out is it ?

I suppose that it all depends on how long you wish to keep your engine running prior to a rebuild. You can be very sure that dino oil has deteriorated somewhat over the first 5K miles. The engine wear between 5K and 7.5K is going to be higher, but, I cannot say, with any certainty, how much.

I'm quite sure that the engine will last for 125K, as a minimum, following changes at 7.5K.

More than that???

I have to find the article but one guy was making the case that your oil is optimum @ 2000-5000 and changing it @ 3000 might be less beneficial than changing it @ 5000.

During the winter when there's no dust or heat I can live with 7500 but no more than 5000 during the summer/early fall.

on my old 1976 BMW 2002 it is recommended to change every 5000 miles. id imagine that in almost 30 years the interval should have gone up.

For mostly stop and go driving I still think thats a bad idea to wait that long............stop and go driving is as extreme as you will see in most cars.

My wife's 04 accord says 10k between oil changes. I won't wait that long though.

FWIW,

I have always changed my oil in my cars and vans at 5k and by looking at my sig, you'll see that I have quite few with well over 100k.
