Last time I looked I'm paying around $600 total/year for the three MB's (liability only). Not sure what the wife's Honda is costing - she pays for it. The oldest boy turns 16 in a couple months so it will be interesting to see where it ends up.

Be glad you don't live in Toronto. I pay $250 a month for one car that is not used as a daily commuter. A guy at work was looking at paying $600 a month for an old ford taurus because he had 3 speeding tickets, even tough no accidents - ever. He have some manadtory goverment accident benefits that are a significant part of that price, but its still ridiculous. In Halifax I paid half that for two cars with a lot more mileage allowed, and when I went to uiniversity in rual Nova Scotia, I paid $50 a month for full coverage on a Cadillac Deville.

My company does some work for State Farm and one of their people told me there is a tonne of fraud up here that the insurers just settle because it would cost to much to fight it in court. We're paying for the idiots and the criminals.

I pay about $160 a month for full coverage on both my cars with Geico. I've got tons of coverage too, but keep the deductible at $500 to keep the cost down.

BTW, when I moved from MD to VA, the rates dropped $800 a year for no other reason then that I got out of that liberal state! MD has laws that favor the victim for hit and runs (you won't pay more than half your deductible or something like that). What really happens is that the insurance company merely passes on those costs to the consumer.

My 560 is about $100 for full coverage in WI, but I'd imagine it would go up with a move to VA.

Then again the same house in VA will cost you over 100K than it is in MD. That's why I stay in MD instead of Northern VA. Plus the traffic is much worse. Try to go down three miles on RT 7 in morning rush hour, it will cost you an hour for three miles

Not to mention all the drinking water contamintaion in the area.

Winchester seemed nice and i thought was very reasonable... the hospital there begged my ex to relocate and work for them...

Jim not bad for liability on 3 cars, but you can bet it will go up with your son. Not too much if you do just liability. Are you going to get just liability or full coverage with his car?

From personal experiance it would probably cost me at least another $100 a month for collision on my SDL. I recomend starting out in under $3k cars for the first 2-3 years. Accidents and general stuff will happen.

So $300+ a month for for full coverage on an SDL in CT. (I'm 19)

300D/300E are hard to beat for a first car simple, cheap, and just fast enough to get him out of trouble.

Plus a W124 300D with a nice set of wheels and maybe a body kit would look down right cool.

Hattie $200.00 isn't so bad. I'd like to find that type of deal and cheaper if possible. Paying $250. a month is steep for me, which equals out to $3K a year on just one vehicle. CRAZY!

Wow... I feel really fortunate after reading all of these posts ! Mine is $63 a month total. Basic liability on my 124 full coverage on the 210. I'm 28, have a good driving record and live in a town of less than half a million. Guess that all helps ! :)

The vehicle tax has been decreasing and hopefully will disappear.....there are taxes in MD you don't pay if you buy a house in VA.........but some things tend to balance each other out.

I pay vehicle taxes on only 2 of my 5 registered vehicles........and that totals all of $85 a year.

Avoid Prince Georges County in MD.........their auto theft rates are 10 times any surrounding areas. The housing prices may be lower but the crime rate is far higher.

Wincester is about a 70 mile drive to DC.........not a pretty commute.

Lebenz 01-28-2005 01:57 PM

I pay about 170 per month for full coverage on 2 vehicles from State Farm. Supposedly I get a discount due to also insuring the domiciles with the same goons.

As an aside, in the past Narwhal suggested shopping brokers to return a lower cost than going through the name brand goons directly. It was great advise but didn’t work for me due to some location related issues.

Springfield is pretty congested.........that 395/95.495 intersection is horrible....395 is a parking lot many days..........just something to consider depending where youwork adn where youwant to live.
