subaru gets top spot

source: Yahoo! News

European car brands are still far behind... while the Asian brands are remaining in the lead. Nothing surprising.. but the problem still continues

I would suggest that Consumer Reports had better do a better job if they lack sufficient responses to include Mitsubishi and several other prominent manufacturers. It goes a long way toward invalidating any results, IMO...

how do consumers expectations of a $13000 korean car vs a $60000 anything car affect the overall result.

i know i have been pleasantly suprised by the recent korean cars, which miht lead one to be hella generous when scoring them. id be a lot more critical of an expensive car than a cheapone.

I drove a new at the time 03 Hyundia Sonata(the expensive one but not the XG350?) It was a decent car, it felt tight and drove nicely. The trans would shift with a push of the lever, and it had a 5spd auto. Not a bad car at all, if I saw one with 100k that looked and felt as good I would buy one. Not to much below Toyota, and you can't beat their price. The fit and finish don't seem to hold up well though.

My wife and I had a Toyota Camry up until about 2-3 years ago. The fit and finish didn't hold up well either. It was a POS.

The fit and finish on my former 93 Camry are holding up just fine, 150k+ on it and zero problems for the new owner so far. The dash on my old Camry is nicer then the one on my friends 98 E300D, not a crack or fading in sight on the Toyota.

Favorite quote from this article...
"We have taken a big gulp," Cordes says, referring to the $331.5 million for warranty and goodwill repairs. "There are still cars out there that are not on the level of quality that we want to provide the customer."

So its not in your head your new Benz really does suck in quality Get those goodwill repairs done before the money runs out. With some dealers it will probably be like pulling teeth

The think got keep in mind is that the CU survey is of it's subscribers, who obviously don't buy very many Mitsubishis or Porsches.

My dad had a Saturn...cheap interior, buzzy engine, no power, ugly looks. But, probably a great point A to point B car. Paint it white and have a refrigerator on wheels.

I desire a little more "oompf" all around in what I drive.
