How important will mpg's be in your next car purchase?

Since $3 a gallon gas and diesel is probably here to stay when it comes time to get another car how important will mileage be? Ie will you opt for the E320 over the E430 because even though a V8 would be sweet you don't want to put the extra money in the tank?

I have noticed over in the diesel forum we are getting an influx of new members interested in biodiesel.

Personaly I want good mileage but I don't want to sacrifice comfort or drive a tin can. So cars like the E320CDI appeal to me.

The sole reason for my next purchase is because of MPG, which I might have found me 'un . If I can average 25 mpg @ $3.00 I will be thrilled.

Sice i've been shopping I have been keeping track of things i do daily that the MB can't do and a unlikey habit came to mind. I usually jump curbs to talk to crews that way I can stay in the car and have access to everything I need. Can I get air shocks that will jack up the E300 so i can do that?

Not to sound smarter than my meager IQ, but I've always considered fuel mileage to be a major factor when deciding upon a vehicle. The only non-four cylinders I've owned have all been diesel powered (5-6 cyls). My gas powered Vanagons have been the least fuel efficient vehicles I've ever owned (18-22 mpg), and we don't drive our '89 as much these days. Wish we hadn't sold our '96 Passat tdi, which got 40-45 mpg and was rock-solid reliable.

With gas @ $3.00 my yearly fuel cost should be a $8600 @ and average of 15 MPG. When I go the E300 route it will be less than half that and I can depreciate the E300 for 2006. With the tax savings and fuel savings it puts my travel expenses in the black, which is a good thing. My travel will increase next year due to a new opportunity so thatt'll knock it even further on my side of the balance sheet.

That is why I bought the suburban (yeah, I know, I am part of the problem ): After depreciation, I paid about $14K for a $40K vehicle

I can buy it with personal cash and lease it to the company.....Rick

I just bought my latest car….again! had a new tyranny, a new cat, a 90K mile tune up, plus some odds and ends done by the dealer for Stella.

In honor of this thread I'm gonna top off the tank and then tomorrow give him a trip up the hill and a few days later back down the hill. It's been years since i paid attention to Stella's consumption habbits, so......

Hey Ted, how are ya liking the new toy??
