I am trying to ascertain whether Matt7531's line of reasoning fits in with Krugman:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/05/opinion/05krugman.html?n=Top%2fOpinion%2fEditorials%20and%20Op%2dEd%2fOp%2dEd%2fColumnists%2fPaul%20Krugman

Krugman seems to make a compelling case.

Krugman is a compelling case.

When I look at the groups providing support for Katrina victims it an easy assumption that the hurricane is indeed faith based.

The Faith Based people are none to happy. I spoke to my minister on the subject this Sunday, and his utter disgust with the FEMA organization was apparent. It is odd to hear a minister say the words "useless son of a *****es" through clenched teeth. He also stated that there are a number of US military hospital ships that are designed to deal with mass casualties directly in the area that were never pressed into service. When one adds this all up, one can see why the blacks are saying that this looks like a plot to get rid of a few hundred thousand black voters. Real or not, the perception is certainly there and the facts certainly fit that opinion. Myself, I just want to know: why? Why were mountains of available resources not directly pressed into service? What happened here?

Krugman does a good job of describing how the current governmental philosophy of "laissez faire" could have been responsible for this disaster. I think the first post in this thread takes that statement a step further, and I think there is enough truth in both for us to be greatly concerned. Losing entire American cities is not a sign of good leadership. At least, one might suspect that. I want to see an investigation, and not one of the usual Bush whitewashes where he investigates himself and declares himself free of disease, even though he has oozing herpes sores all over his face.

How about the fact that the people of New Orleans bear ultimate responsibility for New Oleans...not Washington DC.

Typical liberal entitlement mentality that someone else should always be responsible for stuff thats really their own problem to take care of.

From what I've heard, local authorities seem to be encouraging the abandonment of NOLA. I heard a quote a day or two ago from some local authority (possibly the mayor?) directed at evacuees. To paraphrase, 'Do not return to New Orleans. There are no jobs here, there are no accommodations here. For all practical purposes, New Orleans has been destroyed'. Talk about chilling......

Perhaps you can suggest some open-minded, objective and analytical panel members.
