I'm surprised the ACLU isn't trying to sue that storeowner for denying the rights of the looters to take his property from him. But I guess there is still plenty of time for that to happen yet.

I don't think we'll have to wait too long, the ACLU wants US Constitutional rights for terrorists in foreign countries.

Heard a piece on Pacifica Radio this morning (bonehead's favorite radio network, I'm sure) about how the looting angle was intentionally overblown. The implication of the Pacifica piece was that certain interests want to make the citizens of New Orleans look like animals. That way, maybe people won't blame the government for its poor response.

I'm not vouching for the story. Just food for thought.

The looting scenes where staged by the same legions of Klansmen that kept the black population of New Orleans from evacuating...

They also did themselves up in blackface and staged the looting that was on the news...

All to make a certain segment look bad.

And we all know the RNC is who really runs that show......

now that is just a joke............I hope that is clear.

I'm not saying anything was staged. The people in New Orleans who looted, raped, or did whatever other bad acts they did are lowlife scumbags. All I am saying is that we shouldn't accept the government's spin without applying a healthy dose of skepticism, particularly when we have government forces turning away journalists at gun point . Who ever thought you'd see that happen on American soil?

But you are quick to accept the unsubstantiated claims Dan Rather made against Bush...

And there was no video tapes of that like there was of the looters...

Right. I saw the tapes of the looters. I'm just saying that we should be skeptical of what our government tells us. I'm surprised you have a problem with that.

Well I have had enough intimate dealings with the government since early 1987 than most people have...and I mean in the whats really happening and the communications arena so I tend to look at things differently...becasue I have seen many events and saw how they were handled...

I agree that teh whole security was wildly overblown. Reporters were reporting rumors and rumors were rampant. There was one rumor that we heard one day that a FWS boat driver working with us got shot in the head. Nope, no holes. We worked in a poverty-stricken area of small houses and dense population. The people were NOT hostile and those that chose to be taken out were unifromly appreciative. Many chose not to be evacuated.

To me, it is instructive of how the media reports stuff. They look for the sensational story and over-report it. When teh story gets 'cold' (ie, boring), they go look for some more bad news and over report it.

For evidence, we have Aruba, Michael Jackson, Runaway bride, and now NOLA.

A very well deserved reception:

'THE BIG BOO' CROWD HISSES KANYE WEST
Fri Sep 09 2005 10:30:28 ET

The chart topping hip hop rapper star who used a network hurricane fundraiser to charge "George Bush doesn't care about black people" was loudly and lustily booed during last night's NFL kickoff show.

The appearance of Kanye West, who was beamed into the Boston stadium via remote from Los Angeles, received a strongly negative response from the crowd.

"The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number," reports the BOSTON GLOBE.

Responding to narwhal's comment, I've heard NO was a tough place. On my only visit, I had a blast. Spent several days with a friend who had family in NO and Baton Rouge, so I got some local flavor. I found the whole concept of the place to be a total hoot, mostly because people there didn't conform to the usual conventions. The people I met down there liked to raise hell, but in a positive way. I guess they've developed a whole new type of hell raiser who ain't so positive. It's a shame, because that city has more to offer than just about any other city I've visited, including New York.

BTW, anyone who hasn't read "A Confederacy of Dunces" has to go to Amazon right now and get a copy. A great NO story and the funniest book I've ever read.
