Morality of frozen embryos

I've had conversations with a colleague who has left over embryos from artifical insemination. She is not inclined to destroy them because she thinks they are full human beings. A thought crossed my mind today as I was reading a paper on cloning: It is possible that my colleague could give these embryos to her children. The child could implant the embryos and give birth. What are the moral/social implications of being the mother of your own brother or sister?

As far as I know, this would be completely legal, yet the moral and social implications seem in many ways to be similar to that of cloning, particularly if the child chooses an embryo that is her identical twin.

Wow..the ramnifications of that one can get pretty bizzare.."whos the father? oh my dad is.....?" I'd pay good money to see people faces on that one.

But ethicly...I'm how that would stand..becasue all that would be happening is they are a surrigate..

Does a parent have an obligation to pass on the embryos to their children for a future spare parts supply?

Where the process to ever become normal, would it signify the end of the family as a place of reverence or perhaps advance the case for ID?

Actually, frozen embryos would be a result of IVF, not artificial insemination.

Heck, my wife and I were in infertility treatment for so long that I could give a course on embryology.

Thanks. I knew I didn't have it right when I wrote that but I couldn't remember the correct term.

Do you know how long frozen embryos will remain viable?

Exactly.

Embryo quality isn't diminished by cryopreserving.

The success rate for thawed-out embryos is the same as that for fresh embryos.

However, not all embryos survive the thawing-out process, so that needs to be taken into consideration when deciding how many embryos to thaw out in relation to how many you decide to implant.

Yep, meds aren't covered, even if you do have the ART rider in your health insurance policy, they still aren't covered.

The prescription drugs can cost from between $2,500 to $5,000, depending on the protocol.

Note for the future: the same meds are available from pharmacies in Mexico and England for a much cheaper price. My wife and I ordered from an international pharmacy in London several times, at 50% discounts to prices in the U.S.
