Of course we were the big dog. Taliban and OBL clearly had it coming. Point is, the UN was of great assistance to us.

NPR is fair and centrist compared to what you listen to. Besides, the guy was not directly affiliated with NPR, he was with Newsweek and he was an American, with just as much stake in making this work as you've got.

Pay attention. You might learn something. Hope springs eternal.

Doctor, you're gripped with delusion. Actual left wing radio, Pacifca news as heard on Bezerkeley's own KPFA, refers to NPR as National Propaganda Radio, and they ain't talkin bout left wing propaganda.

You don't listen to it. You are UNINFORMED as to their true nature. So Daniel Schorr rakes dubbers over the coals? Someone's gotta do it, dude needs it 12 ways from here to next Sunday.

NPR makes Al Frankin look conservative....

I'm not the one in denial that NPR is Uberliberal.

What? People you deem Uberliberal have no rights as citizens? Such people are not allowed to have a stake in the health of Americay? To speak on the radio?

Doctor: "The wise man learns more from his enemies than the fool does from his friends." - Ben Franklin.

Get busy. You've got a lot of ground to make up.

Uberliberals want communism...uberliberals want to cancel the bill of rights. uberliberals work to deny citizens their civil rights...(specifically the 2nd amendment for starters)..Uberliberals are working to destroy the USA as we know and love it.

Uberliberals don't deserve to have rights...they don't respect the rights of others...

Uberliberals try to steal elections they lose......Like in 2000 and 2004

Sorry but you are convieniently ignoring the fact that they would have no elections today if it wasn't for us.....The UN didn't see any urgency to get rid of the taliban any more than it did Saddam...why would they want to upset the gravy train.

Well Bone, you're right. The UN wouldn't have accomplished much of the stuff they have without our funding and support. The UN, however, has done some pretty good stuff. Especially in the areas of worldwide vaccinations and health related matters. I toyed around with the idea of working for them after grad school. Found out you have to have 5 years work experience to even submit a resume. Unless your father is a UN diplomat.

At this point though, with the ineffective sanctions and the corruption I think they may have served their purpose and we should look for another institution. Even maybe start another institution. I really don't think that'll happen though.

I might point out though that our past support and continued support, monetarily and otherwise, for the UN completly torpedoes any US imperialistic or hegemonic argument out there - that's just dumb.

The voice of reason and experience....

There's a great line from the Tao Teh Ching: "The wise man is grateful for even a faint light, for what little light it gives." The faint light being the UN, in this case.

Nevertheless, I think the time has come to upgrade the faint light to something useful and not candle-like so that we can actually see and not run the risk of burning the house down.

There does seem to be an almost built in propensity for grid-lock. I have a feeling if the UN were dissolved and then something else established, out of necessity probably, the new entity could well devolve into UN style bickering and impotence. So to start again could just delay the inevitable hard choices needed to clean house.

Who's going to do the cleaning? If we do we'll be accused of trying to take over and form an empire. We are in the best position to do the cleaning however. Something that would benefit the world as a whole. I'd start by getting rid of any country that's non-democratic or not heading that way. That would be most of the Middle East and China. I'd kick France out as well, just because it's the right thing to do.
