Healthy people insurance plan?

Is it legal to get a bunch of healthy low risk people together and go in together as group on a health plan?

What you are describing is the essence of what insurance used to be all about. You and me and a couple other persons we trust would all chuck a few bucks into a hat and let it draw interest. It served as a security blanket in case one of us encountered a problem. For obvious reasons, we wouldn't want to include any accident-prone people in our little select group.

Unfortunately, insurance got to be big business and a big investment vehicle. Now they need to show a profit for their investors, hence the rates keep going up. Okay, I'm off the soap box now.

Cheers,
Wes

I wonder if I can round up a hundred healthy people and go to an insurance company and say "hey, we're healthy. Give us a big discount."

Oh..and Doctors and the medical field got real gready too .....otherwise medical costs would not have been escalating at 10 times the rate of inflation for years....it isn't 100% the insurance companies fault..they had help too.

What is your criteria for healthy? One of mine would be 'have no need for health insurance'. Do folks get kicked off the plan as a need arises?

Not quite sure, but in theory maybe under 35, non-smoker, low cholesterol, blah blah blah.

I am in insurance, and they do offer discounts for people that are healthy. For example I was reading some info on an insurance policy, and I found that because the guy was a long distance runner, the company would offer him a discount. It all just depends on the company. For example, you can save ALOT of money on a Life Insurance plan if you are healthy. A guy I wrote a policy for had to pay out the ass just because his cholestorol and his blood pressure were high.

I say, it can't hurt to try, so why not?

Well I don't know. This thread is going nowhere.

I'm on a self-insured plan with my wife's company thus no discounts, but they make smokers pay extra though. I know BC/BS does this thing where you get $20 off a gym membership.

Here's a couple leads.

NASE (National Association for Self Employed) has a competitive plan. NSAE is pretty good to be a member of anyway they have many discounts that will offset the membership cost.

But imo if you're healthy the HSA's are the best deal around contact you Life Insurance agent for details. Many can say this or that but it won't hurt to check it out.

Basiclly a family in Michigan will cost you $200 is a month, the deductable is $2500 but any payment you make toward the deductable goes towrd the monthly payment and once you meet the $6000 limit on the account you don't have to make payments unless the account is tapped.

It's interest bearing and actually will make you money not bad IMO.

Insurance rates and plans vary widely from state to state and your medical insurance salesman will never tell you about HSA's. MY neighbor is the CEO of one of Michigan largest insurers and he said that many insurance companys are moving to the HSA including BCBS, because of its benefits.

On Friday, the University of Florida board of trustees approved health care benefits for gay and lesbian "partners" of employees, and also included are unmarried heterosexual couples. The proviso that should have been added was that: Anyone that has a positive HIV test result will be isolated with other HIV positve people. It works for Cuba.
