Angry Busted!

Imagine a straight road in any town, one lane in each direction plus center lane for turns. It's 2AM, no traffic but wintry conditions (road plowed but slushy, possibly icy spots but no snowfall), you're going 40mph (speed limit is 30, though ) and you're keeping a proper following distance. The car in front of you slows down and signals to make a right turn. What would you do, slow down and wait until he finishes his turn or just merge to the center lane, keep your speed and pass?

Slow down until he turns, using the center lane to pass a turning car is a big ticket in Michigan.

Oh well, it still needs a bored cop hiding around the corner to give you that ticket.
I learned my lesson and paid 90 bucks for it. I guess they don't like the german way of driving over here.

$90 is pretty mild it's $500 here and several points. I can't think of a cop anywhere that wouldn't tag you although the roads were empty it really is a dangerous manuver mainly because if the person turning changes their mind that forces you to stay in the center lane.

Where did you get that? $500 maybe incorrect but that fact that doe remain is it's a wicked ticket. I'm pretty sure they bang you with a double on something. I'll also bet that there was a bad accident that involved this violation so the police stepped up enforcment.

Not sure if they have this law in Florida....it would be hard to enforce, as many old people mistake the center lane (when available) for a regular lane. They usually figure it out after a little while, and then promptly cut into the regular lane. It is such a move, that makes driving on Florida roads exciting! You just never know what they are going to do. Do we live life on the edge, or what?

I usually go little into the other lane and not completely slow down behind the turning car, unless I am an area where that is extensively used for revenue generation.

Here in Po-Dunck city there is a center turning lane....the police and ambulance use it for hi speed transit ....trouble is, the lane collects debis and some scattered rocks which get thrown everywhere when they come screeming down the center lane

Now....a little while ago I was coming back to the shop and made a left turn across the road from the school....there was a gap in the left lane traffic flow which I was going to catch as it came up....however as I crossed the road and turned to make the left lane a car in the right lane moved into the slot I was going to use

This made me slow and use the center lane to slowly roll along until the traffic cleared...about 50 yards or so before merging into the left lane south.

As I got up to 35 a traffic cop came up behind and flashed me to pull over which I did down by the lumber store. I got out and walked back to his car and he was finishing calling in the stop.....his name was Officer S******.

He said did I know what I'd done ? He told me that I had made an illeagle turn.
Really? Says I....How so ?...He said, The center was a turn lane only....I told him that is just what I have done so what's the problem ? He said there is NO TRAVELLING in the center lane.

You can imaging how I feel about the samwich munchin', drink slurping morons coming out of the Sonic on that street To say nothing of the Indi 500 when the emergency vehicles light up and use it as a freeway.

I know all the cops here...mostly because we eat breakfast together in Val's every morning and Officer S****** because he comes to my shop to ask about vehicles he's about to buy.

David...the police chief, said he was not supprised I was pulled over, but he said he'd not stop anyone unless an accident happened and the offence/accident needed recorded.

So....If you ever come to my town....do not use the center lane to stop in when making a left turn across traffic.

Interesting name, that officer: I buy a "t"

Officer S**t***

The one who solves that riddle gets banned for using inappropriate language.

I used to until a friend got nailed for it, we have a 12 point system the ticket was $500 and 4 points, it would have been 6 points but they cut it down do to his perfect driving record.

i am going to have to look into it... that's a huge fine and some huge points.. daumn

out in the country people go into the left lane (if no oncoming traffic is present) when they turn that way so one behind them could just keep on.. i wonder if that is illegal too..

If the lane has a solid yellow line it is for turning only, at least thats the way it was explained to me.
