Fat Americans
I just came back from Florida. Man oh man. It get’s worse every time. I'd say one in ten was seriously obese. I don't mean fat, I mean can't move in a normal manner obese. We up north aren't far behind. It scared me to the point that I put my whole family on a diet. We have always had excess food in North America so why do we have such a problem with this now? And what can realistically be done about it because I don't think we have enough piano boxes to go around.

Ha! I know I know I know. That's why I added the little fat bastard in my sig.!!! It is a very sad state we're in. These idiots keep eating this processed trash. I can't tell you how much I hate fact that I have to pay health care costs to pay for unhealthy f*cks. Yet, I get good insurance rates on my cars because I'm a good driver. I honestly feel that these fat pieces of trash should be made to pay more. Just like smokers, etc. You want to eat a McFatty, go ahead and eat it, just don't make ME pay for it.
But hey. The phramacutical companies don't want this to happen. So it won't. |

I'm surprised that this is from a Canadian. True there are a lot of fat arses in this country, but Canada is a CLOSE 2nd when in it comes to fat population. Its not just an American thing... its going global. Even China is starting to have problems.

You shouldn't be surprised. We aren't far behind as I said and I think it is a problem for North America. I didn't post it as a joke or to make fun of these people. I think it is a serious issue that needs attention. As Zeus said, maybe the smart money is in Insulin. Jorg |

Snibble,
Canada isnt as bad as you think when it comes to obesity. It also depends where you're located...people in Toronto are in fairly good shape. Its the ones out of the city that dont know anything about dieting let alone fashion!

Yep, it's getting worse.
I have been going to Cape Hatteras more or less every year since around 1990 for a surfing trip. Each year, people on the beach seem to get heavier. The only really fit people we see are the local surfers and their local girlfriends. You see entire obese families spend all day on the beach barely moving, eating bags and bags of chips and drinking soft drinks and beer. It reminded me of raw pork baking in the sun, it was disgusting. ![]() Then we hit the local Food Lion and the crap people were buying was mental. The portions and type of food being purchased numbs the mind. It's sadly true that Canada isn't far behind. If I consumed as much sugar as I saw people buying, I'd be bouncing off the walls all night. Can you imagine how much insulin their bodies must be cranking out to try and metabolize that sugar out of their blood? Buy insulin stock now, diabetes will be the norm in about a decade or so...

One more tidbit - has anyone bought a drink in a movie theatre lately, even a 'small' one? They're insane. Some of these must be at least a litre, maybe even 2L for the super gulp ones. Imagine how much sugar is dissolved into that.

A 12 oz soda has the equivelant of 10 teaspoons of sugar in it. A good way to show this to a soda person is to get a clear juiceglass and have them put 10 teaspoons of white table sugar in the glass. When you see it there in front of you, you should think twice. The sick thing is some people have 2-3 of these before noon everyday. And like 5-6 more throughout the day. Everyday! Sugar is poison. I haven't had more than 4 sodas in the last 10 years. Just to add 2c ; a great book to get your hands on is Diet for A New America; by John Robbins. not a diet book but a lesson about the Great American Food Machine. Robbins is the son of the "Robbins" of Baskin & Robbins Ice ceram empire who turned down the family business when he saw his uncle die at an early age from obesity from eating so much garbage...etc. It is a great read. If you took all the unhealthy food out of any full size supermarket, you would be left with the produce section and maybe 1/2 an aisle of food. And there's NO fiber in animal flesh. So no carb diets are only there to get people and businesses rich who sell the $hit to fatties.

A lot of no carb diets entail eating a lot of lettuce and whole grains...I can see someone losing weight if they eat a lot of produce and whole grains and lean meats like chicken breast. There are definitely some carbohydrates I avoid such as white bread and sugarcereals.

According to some studies, 2/3 of the American population is obese.

THANK GOD! I'm *NOT* the only person that sees this!!!! How can something like this be ignited? What needs to be done? Isn't it obvious to everyone? Or is it something that since most people are fat, they don't want it... and since we're a "democracy" that means the fat people will win??? I honestly feel that if you're fat, the doctor should say, look, you have 12 months to lose x pounds. If not, your insurance is going to drop you, or your rate goes from $320 a month to $890 a month. Take it or leave it. |

I don't agree with that. I think if we had national health care prices would be more in line nationally instead of this bull**** where my premium in Florida would be $130 yet in New Jersey it is $380. I am seldom for nationalization of anything. I think the minute government gets involved you get screwed, but in the case of health care I think we *need* it nationalized. The fact that the Doctor gets $50 for an office visit from the insurance company, yet $200 from a private payer is total bull****. If he'll take $50 from Blue Cross for 20 min. -- Why won't he take it from me! |
