Chevy/GMC trucks

Does anyone know why out of all the light trucks you see on the roads that nearly 90% of Chevy/ GMCs have at least one parking light burned out? Here in Texas we have a very high number of trucks and almost without exception every truck that you see that has a parking light burned out is a Chevy/GMC.

'...splain that to me Lucy.

Ever try to deal with GM electrical systems. Please -- I have a few Delco (I think that is who they use) relays in the my VW Passat (Don't ask me why!) -- and they are trash. GM is total junk.

Too bad I feel this way because I could have had a nice pickup, brand new for $13,870 2 weeks ago. The truck had a $19,100 sticker. I walked away. I know people in construction that only buy GM trucks.

No thanks.

I bought my wife a 2002 Yukon. I already had to replace the factory DRL (the ones you see failing). Iti s not just a Texas thing, it happens here in California too.

Now that I replaced both lights, no more problems. GMC must buy supplies form the lowest possible bidders.

I've noticed that too, along with many late model Corvettes with DRL's. I cheapens the look of the car, no doubt. I guess the owners either don't care or don't notice since they are on in the daytime. Cops are probably not as strict about them as they are with head and tailights being burned out.

I prefer Toyota but I get Chevy's cheap so I buy them. I have had several Avalanches and Suburbans with minor problems, I did have a lemon Yukon that was replaced by GM with very little resistance. OTOH I had a header cracking problem with my Toyota Tundra and they fought me until the end despite the fact that I have owned several Lexus, 4 Runners, a t-100 and a few Land Cruisers and it was that header experience that moved me to Chevy. To be honest its a hunk of metal to me I would hardly call them anything but a truck the Burb and Avalanche ride nice and that's about it, I beat'em to death and get a new one.

The problem is that they use a dual fillment bulb and burn both at the same time for brightness. I suppose they could have used a different style bulb but for some reason they don't. They have changed the bulb number and we are seeing less of these burn outs. The new number is a 4114k and cost $3.25, not really a big deal. The old number was a 3157.

I've also noticed several Ford F-250's around here that have at least one brake light out ... and we're talking BRAND SPANKING NEW ... eck!

One of the things I enjoyed on my '87 Park Ave. was the little light thing that was mounted on the roof directly above the back window. You could see it out of your rear-view mirror, and it would illuminate the parking/brake/turning lights, and if one failed, the light inside would go out. There was also another one mounted atop the dashboard for the front lights. The only car I've owned other than the Mercedes that tells you when a bulb fails ...
