Depressed about no sunroof

I love my w202 C-class dearly...but with the nice weather having no sunroof package on it...its...crappy. Open windows its heavy wind and noise + buffetting.

I dont think its good to do aftermarket sunroofs on these cars and if so how do they put it in exactly? I probably wont do it but just asking.

Actually there are some really good aftermarket sunroofs vendors out there. Some even come with long term warranties. The technology has improved so much. I guess it depends on how long you want to keep this car and how bad you want a sunroof.

How much would something like this cost? I dont know where to start looking. The car would be more than perfect "to me" with a roof.

did the C class have an option for sunroof? If so, could you pick up the entire set from a parts car and have a body shop do an installation?

Glad my 560 has one

Yup...was a whopping $2000 option. Actually, a good idea Snibble. I'll check both options.

The w126 sunroof is heavenly indeed.

Slightly OT - Did you guys see the movie 'Ronin' with Robert DeNiro? Some great car chases and they had a vintage W116 450SEL 6.9 in it, I believe. Anyway, there's a scene where a guy pops up through the sunroof (moonroof) in the SEL and fires a bazooka.

I think the reason they used the SEL was in part due to its titanic sunroof - the only one that could fit a bazooka through.

I'm sharing your sunroof woes as well - lifter broke on mine and the repair costs are staggering.

The lack of sunroof is my biggest (only) gripe about my Jetta. If I had my 'druthers it would have a big MANUAL one like the 84 300TD had! I have actually looked into aftermarket roofs, too, and the few that I found were in the $500-800 range, installed. I am still interested in adding one sometime; keep us posted on what you find out!

$1400 for a roof that has moonroof/closed ventilation/ and wide open type roof.

Basically what a MB roof comes with these days. I'll leave it as a future "mod"

I like how I really can stand in the rear footwells and stand up out of the sunroof. To be entirely complete the vehicle will have to have a few LAW rockets quick release mounted to the headliner for sunroof firing abilities in traffic

Really when you put all the windows down on a W202 you get blown away? I always liked the higher end MB's because you could put all 4 windows down and not get blown away.

Sunroof's are a pita I just finished fixing mine a couple of months ago. I almost don't want to use it now.

A convertable is the solution!

I only use mine in the vent setting (rear lifted) to help evacuate cigarette smoke. Otherwise, the windows and roof stay closed, since the climate-control does a great job.

But I would never add a sunroof to a car that didn't come with one. Your milage may vary.

I keep thinking that a huge fabric Webasto-style sunroof would be spiffy on the right car...sort of a huge version of the sunroof on a Renault 5 (LeCar).
