anyone have a pergola?

has anyone ever constructed one? we have a wrought iron patio gazebo like thing... its pretty rusty, and i like the look and feel of wood. im very skilled when it comes to woodworking so ive been told, (cant weld) i do have experience when it comes to things like this.. i built the fence for my house with my step dad... gee i did most of the work, and my neighbors i helped with(same design), i also laid a brick patio in my backyard.

since i cant mount onto the brick since they are small and fragile i was thinking of putting the feet outside the patio. i'd use the cardboard tubes for forming footings, about a foot and half deep and use those to anchor the pergola, and go from there, i would use my woodshop at school and build it there and then just move it home and rebuild it..

the material is ceder... and i want it to be finished, my mom wants to put vines, grape vines on it...
