'85 Porsche 911 Turbo
To buy or not to buy? Friend of mine has come across a sweetness vehicle and I'm curious for any responses for those that may have had some experience with these cars.... Apparently the vehicle is in pristine condition.
Anything specific about these cars to watch out for? The car is not local a family member test drove it recently and apparently it's a beast.

I guess it depends on how much?
I say stay away. There are much greater performance bargains to be had for much less money than most properly maintained 930's. The repairs on the turbo can be extremely expensive. However, the wide bodied turbo's of the late 70's and through the 80's are some of the best looking cars on the road. |

Go for it. These cars aren't difficult to work on. The turbo rebuild isn't difficult . Clutch replacement isn't tough either. Everything is mechanical, no drive by wire, nothing. Don't be fooled by the Porsche badge. Parts cost money, but expect these things to be easy as your run 'o' the mill American metal, in metric of course. There's only one special tool you need outside of the EFI tooks, and that's a clawfoot for dialing in the cam. These things are remarkably simple machines. Blackmercedes had a 1977 I think. In general, word is '86 is more collectible than '85.

I think by '85 they had the motronic engine management system. At least on the NA Carrera. These are very simple cars to work on, and parts are probably cheaper than the average Acura. The turbo parts may be more than the NA parts but I think they share block castings.
In 1977 a friends dad bought a new one and he brought it to High Scholl occasionally. It was the pre-intercooler version and had considerable turbo lag but once it got spooled up it gave you a good kick in the back. It was ice green metallic with like a peanut butter leather. What a beautiful car. The down side of these cars is that usually they have had the dog ***** run out of them. Have a leak down test done and take it to a good Porsche mechanic for a check up. Remember that these engines are fairly well tweaked from the factory so they aren't good for lots of miles before they need valves and more.

Here is the car guys I'm referring to. It says in the description that it's a Euro spec... I assume turbo. I to this point haven't confirmed whether it's the turbo or not...

I know from a solid source that you can get three girls, yes three girls into that car, and yes you can score in one, with said girls.

Can't wait to see that Borat movie. From Wikipedia:
In January 2005, after convincing the authorities that he was shooting a documentary, Borat managed to infuriate a crowd at a rodeo in Salem, Virginia, first by saying that "I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards...and may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq", and then by mangling the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner". For his own safety, Borat was escorted from the venue. [4]

Borat is hilariouos. Definitely his best character next to the gay fashion guy.
Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Magazine ran a buyers guide article last month on turbos of this vintage. It should still be on the shelves, might be worth a look.

Dude that's no turbo. Even if you see a widebody with a whale tale (tea tray with sides) and think it's a turbo you can always look at the exhaust. Twin exhaust = turbo. Single ugly black exhaust = non-turbo.

The only other 930 that was nice was in 89 when the went to the 5 speed. The 4 speed is good though, 3rd is overdrive, 4th is big overdrive. I wish I had a 2.5 gear on that car. It actually would have been cheap to change the gears in the tranny to make 3rd closer to 2nd. Would have been more driveable.

Any educated guesses on what this car would be worth?
