Newspaper Delivery

Does anyone know how much newspaper delivery men earn? Are most of those guys just doing it for extra income or is it really their bread and butter? My father was saying that when he was a boy newspapers were delivered by kids on bikes who were just doing it for pocket money, interesting.

I don't think most make that much. My Wall Street Journal gets delivered daily by someone that looks to be an illegal immigrant in a little white Honda Civic. I tried to engage in a conversation with him but he doesn't seem to speak English. I must say though, he does have an awesome arm as he always manages to throw it in the same exact spot on the lawn.

So your WSJ gets delivered on a dorm-room lawn? If there are 100s of students living in the dorm, I bet this gets confusing

It depends on the paper you are delivering... WSJ paid a measly 7 cents per delivery vs boston globe 20 cents each and 40 on sundays for a rural route, this was 3-4 years ago. The usual route is about 20-30 miles, involves 125-175 papers on a weekday and an oddball WSJ or NewYork Times, and maybe 250 papers on a Sunday.

given the cost of driving / maintaining the vehicle, only profitable day was sunday + christmas tips. If you "desperately" need the money, and they have openings around christmas time, I say go for it.. but 80% of the time you will be just breaking even.

I can't believe you. You exploit illegal immigrant labor just so you can have your Journal on your front lawn every morning? Go pick up your paper at Starbucks like the rest of them cattle.

Even more amazing is Kamil makes the assumption that because he drives little white Civic and doesn't speak english he is not making much money......Interesting concept

It's so much easier to just walk on the lawn to pick it up...you can do that in your boxers.
