selling a '05 c230k and buying a '93 500e

im selling a '05 c230k and trying to buy a '93 500e we need two cars and hopping to sell the c230 around 30k and is that reasonable to sell the c230 and buy a 500e for 15k and a repo '01 s500 for 14k. I am asking if its good to do this the 500e has 130k miles on it but that thing is clean with some evo wheels and upgraded brakes the car is what i believe in great condition. i want to know how long the 500e engine would last i heard about 350k on a straight 6 on a 300e but i dont know about those v8 on how it would last and the s500 looks clean but its green well a unique color. i was just wondering about the 500e and what im doing is reasonable and pls give me an info about on the 500e the vin # is WDBEA36E0PB914317

your info would help a lot

500e

Take a look at the woner's forum for the 500E at www.500ecstacy.com for an interesting look at these cars.

I love them, once tested one for someone in Az who was thinking about buying one, it was I think a '92 with about 127k on it. It's just a 300E that's been worked over by Porsche and made into a roadgoing tiger.

I was able to slice and dice through highway traffic at incredible speeds, over 115 mph, and the cornering, handling and braking are simply incredible. There are few sedans so well balanced as these out there. Only the badge on the trunk and the bulging wheelwells give away the 500E as something different than a standard 300E from a casual observer, so in an innocuous color they are a stealth car, too.

Being of the W124 generation, they are the last of the built to a cost no object standard E class car, so you'll be getting a car that will run to a VERY high mileage, and if well kept up, will last to star trek mileages

I'd be especially keen to be sure the wiring harness and airconditioning systems in the 500E are in good shape, other than that the cars are pretty bulletproof if well kept up, so books and records with the car are a good thing to have. As with any Mercedes, neglected ones can cost a lot to get back up to snuff. And surprisingly, an equivalent 400E delivers near to 80% of the performance of the 500E, so a mint example of one of those could be worth a look, at a big savings too.

The repo car

I'd be a little careful about buying the $14k repo S class, there is a real danger that anyone who had the car repoed didn't have enough money to spend the money to maintain the car properly if he couldn't keep up on the payments. Make sure you have the books and records on it and be satisfied it's been well kept up before you buy it. Don't forget a good detailer can make even a neglected Mercedes really sparkle.

I personally don't know anything about the running costs and insurance on these newer S class cars, but it won't be too cheap, and some of them definately have build quality issues the earlier models the 70s and 80's cars didn't have. Do your research well before you buy!

thank you so much Jim B. i like on what you have said about the 500e and the do's and donts of the car. you most certainly correct about the repo car. but i was thinking buying a 14g car is like buying a toyota corolla decent car but 14 g for a s class '01 i think its worth it but i agree with you if they cant pay the payment they cant pay the maintenance. but selling a C class and getting a S and a Legendary E class is well worth it
