Anyone else losing mail ?
In the last 6 months, more mail we have sent has been lost than in the previous 60 years. The postal service used to be the last bastion of trustworthiness. I'm afraid those days are gone forever. One of our neighbors stopped at the shop a week ago and gave us a letter we had mailed, which was laying in the middle of the road. The carrier had picked it up from the shop and dropped it in the street. I suppose the post office is no different than any other business that is hard pressed to find competent, coherent employees who actually care about their job. I speak from an employers standpoint who deals with it every day.

My postman is the laziest SOB on the planet. If it snows 1/4" he won't deliver the mail. Even after I clear a path from snow, he won't deliver it.
If the grass gets above 3" in height, he won't deliver it. And, if he's just too lazy that day, he'll save it for the next day and deliver it as a group for two.......or three days. He forced me to move the mailbox to the outside of the house. He would not make the 8" step onto the front porch. 7" is the limit. The reliability is so poor, I use a post office box for most of my mail. It's not too bad, but, they lose at least one bank statement per year. Definitely gone downhill in the past few years. I miss our old postman, Don.........he'd deliver in a blizzard and not complain about it. |

Yeah we had a good one for awhile, our new one is a lazy SOB. If there is any little bit of snow in front of malebox from the plow he won't deliver. God forbid he step 2ft outside of his tart cart and put the letters in the box.
There days are numbered and they know it. You can do just about everything online now, they must see there numbers dropping off.

A few weeks ago, the mailman took all the outgoing mail from my neighbor across the street and delivered it directly to me.

i get my milage checks sent to me every week.the company mails them every wednesday.i am 120 miles from the main office.about a month ago it took them, in a 3 week period,10 days,6 days and 8 days for my checks to get to me. i told them i could have walked there and picked them up myself and still made it back with time to spare.seems like every time they ask for an increase in rates the service goes down.

I think is has to do with all the third class junk mail. There is so much crap flowing through there that they are overwhelmed.

You got that one right. I use the UPS private mailbox service, used to be Mail Boxes Etc., cause I'm usually not in during the day and I hate going to the post office or UPS to pick up packages. If I haven't made it in for a week, whoa, my box is stuffed with mail -- 90%+ junk mail.
Crap, you make one donation to what seems like a worthy cause and you get a hundred solicitations a month. Nonetheless, I guess I've been lucky -- no piece of mail of mine has been lost that I know of . . . . . . knock on wood.

I read somewhere that, in a effort to cut down on the possibility of Edmond, OK-style office massacres, NALC has successfully negotiated with the USPS to allow letter carriers to take a bong hit at least once an hour.
