Any recommendations for an Apple Laptop?

I've had it with MS operating systems primarily and the PC's that run it in general. My work PCs are built by the company that also did our Unix mainframe and perform beautifully, however at home I've been through 2 Dells (actually still have one but refuse to use it), a Gateway and a Compaq.

We've got cable internet and all Cox protection programs are always updated. They still all end up getting bogged down, sometimes painfully slow surfing, constant pop-ups despite pop-up controls, we use the Norton virus and spyware scans several times a week all to no avail.

I though about having BSI build me one for home but, maybe I'm naive, my understanding is that Apples have far fewer of these related problems and I'm just fed up with Windows at the moment.

I'm in the market for a laptop anyway so I figured why not get myself an Apple. I don't do a lot of graphics work but I do some. I would like wireless internet access. The ability to watch DVDs isn't high but it's nice to be able to. Other than that it's primarily word processing and spreadsheet work.

I don't really know where to start so I'm looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

How much you willing to spend?

I would get a macbook pro if I had the money...

or just the regular macbook but with a larger harddrive and the faster processor out of the lot..

Really depends on what I need to. I figure I get to spend at least a little of my refund money

Given what I need it for, I'm guessing I probably don't really need a Pro. What will a Pro do that a standard one w/larger hardrive & processor won't?

Forgive me, but other than the spelling I know nothing about Apples

the Pro is just bigger, faster harddrive, more ram, etc..

Look them up on apples website.. Im still considering a macbook or an iMac.. I'll probably go with the iMac since I don't really need a laptop anymore

in mercedes gearhead talk

macbook= W123

macbook pro= W126

I recommend doing exactly the opposite of what TheDon recommends.

Believe me, that will work out best.

I wouldn't be very worried about not being able to run Vista, although that might be a problem if I were buying a brand-new pee sea.

OSX simply rocks, and XP seems to work fairly well for what it is.

For those needs, I think a MacBook would work well., The screen is only 13", but you could always buy a 17" monitor for watching DVD's.

Mine has been great so far and works well the wireless "airport" -- but that small screen can be a bummer. I only use it for the internet and some word processing, so it's good enough for now.

Dont forget the tuneup consisting of one of those compressed air dealies, deleting all the old junk, and defragging the drive.
