Ever get the urge to buy a pickup truck??

For some reason, even though its totaly opposite then what everyone who knows me would expect, I kind of want to buy a pickup!:D I have no idea why, but I think either a Dodge Ram with a Cummins, or a Chevy 1500 would be nice.

But then the practical side of me kicks in I will never tow anything, or carry anything. Mostly it will be just me running around town, and a big truck isn't the greatest for that. The fuel mileage, ha what fuel mileage?:D

But then again a truck would be cool...

I went for years thinking about buying a pickup. I thought at the time that I really didn,t need it. Man was I wrong. I now have two. My first truck is an 89 Jeep with the 4.0 straight. It now has 189,000 miles and the only expense has been tires and one relay. I also have an 02 Dodge Quad 5.8 4 by 4. Its not great with gas but I can use the fuel needle as a fan! If you do not have or never had a truck you do not know what you are missing!

Best of luck,

J.D.

I do, but only after listening to country music.

I also get the urge to attend at least one NASCAR event.

Wait...you are serious? :D

I thought about it, and then drove my friends F350... Tooo god damn big... Then I figured I can just buy a trailer and tow it on the G if I need to move something. Cheaper, smarter, and more stylish..

Then I saw it...

After seeing this, I have decided that its OK to wear boots and listen to country. Hell, I would even wear cowboy boots. :)

The same thing happens to me. If it's Merle Haggard(sic) or George Jones, I get the strong urge to consume moonshine and shoot out the porch light.

Thought about getting one...for the rare times I can't afford the delivery charge on a major appliance or piece of furniture!

Fortunately, the ML suits me for most hauling purposes.

What prevents me from owning a pickup is that the folks I know that own one get pestered often for all sorts of "moving" favors!

Oh, this also made me want to buy a pickup!

My dad had a '92 Cherokee with the 4.0, the most reliable vehicle I have ever seen. He got rid of it because my mom demanded dual air bags. What a shame.

never really gave buying a truck much thought till a friend of mine showed up in a '08 King Ranch F-350...I looked under the hood (after getting a step ladder) and saw the new variable vane, SINGLE housing, TWIN TURBO :D And it's a Garret!

I'm fine with pickup trucks and GMC/Suburban/Yukon/Expedition type SUVs, as long as they are really put to there highest and best use regularly.

Do you have to pull a horse or boat trailer, haul firewood, go often to the plant nursery, take home hay bales, go on unpaved roads to show clients property, have paint cans and ladders or plumbing supplies to haul around, and in the snow country in winter, there are reasons. They can really be useful sometimes. Jeremy Clarkson hates them, said P J O'Rourke described
piickup trucks as a back porch with an engine, but said that would be unfair-
--to the porch!!

But for normal surburban living, they are a waste of money, unless they meet some perceived status or image need. Maybe better to borrow a friend's or rent one when you need it. Kind of like having a big Mercedes, (hoisted on my own petard!) but at least I can say the old Mercedes is real safe and comfortable, and it unarguably is.

I have a Ford E150 Club Wagon van. It's like a truck with a climate controlled topper. Plus I can hold 8 people if I install the rear bench. It's great for hauling stuff or long trips. It tows pretty good with only a 302 as well.

My father has a 1985 Toyota Pickup (that he bought new) with the 22r and five speed. He's also got a 2001 Chevy Silverado that he bought new. He prefers the Toyota to drive 120 miles every day to work and back, Chevy is just sitting there collecting dust. Take this as you want.

my 03 dodge with cummins and six manual gets about 20 running 75 to 80 wo any trailer on back.

its about the same cost to drive for fuel as my 05 dodge magnum with the little 3.5 v6.

and never any trouble or things to fix.

67k and still running the original front tires and all brake pads. and that is with a lot of towing.

I just retired from pickups after having driven them for the past ten years or so. Two small boys do better in a Suburban.

t walgamuth 03-16-2007 08:01 AM

ahhhhh suburbans. i had six. now that the nest is down to one in college i could choose something else. not that subs are bad.

but i wanted a cummins and six manual to tow with.
