Anybody own/has owned a '92 Deville ?

Yeah, I know it goes against MB religion, but I am going to look at a '92 Deville tomorrow.
Any previous/current owners have any particular items that I should eyeball?

Paint is in nice shape, so is the interior. It has 140k miles.
I had a '88 before (4.5ltr) and it was a decent car for the money - this one has a 4.9 ltr, which I thought I heard was better than the 4.5.

For the price of this car, I can almost get a new ASR module

thanks!

-Larry

I had an '88 Seville with the 4.5L engine.

Then I had a 1999 Seville with the Northcrap engine.

My biggest issue with the '88 was finding spare parts for things like the self-destructing door trim.

My biggest issue with the '99 was the excessive oil consumption (about a qt. per 1k miles since new).

other than that, they were both big, comfortable cruisers.

Can you live with FWD and wobbly handling?

If YES, then these cars are OK and the price can't be beat!

From what I have heard, the 4.9 is a pretty decent motor.

I belong to this forum:

Serious Cadillac discussion goes on there. The funny thing is, you don't see nearly the problems you see with MB. That's why I bought two Eldorado's, not to mention that the dealer makes buying parts a pleasure, not a pain. In general, a much easier car to live with.

I think Mistress used to have a Caddy of that general vintage. She can probably give you some useful info about that. I don't know what has happened to her lately. I hope she's not putting her job before the forum!

My daughter has a '94 Deville, mint condition. Full leather, with all the goodies. She paid $3000.00 for it, with 55,000 miles on it. I can tell you, when you floor this car, it accelerates to the point of snapping your neck backwards. Yes it's big, but the 32 valve V8 does a good job.

Most people that are used to driving 4 cylinder and some 6's aren't used to a V8's power. She loves the luxury aspect of it. Keyless entry with alarm.

She thought about an expensive new small car (she's in college), but she is VERY happy with this car.

Actually my Northcrap engined Seville was fairly thirsty (compared to the 300TE or the 300CE).

And it ran on regular too.

Average 18-19 mpg. Ouch! At least she doesn't have to make car payments.

Nothings perfect! Hey, it was only 3 grand. Pretty good deal I think.

Larry check the water pump and serpentine belt. The electronics may be alittle funky at this point with power windows, seats etc. The rear window regulators have a nasty habit of crappy out when you need them ( stormimg outside etc.) The antennae (sp) will get stuck half way down when the weather turns cold. I had a 94 Brougham that slept 6 comfortable and was like driving a recliner on wheels. Mechanically, it was the best car i ever owned and Cadillac service at the dealership was great. The engine was a 5.7 litre when I pressed down on the gas pedal it was flushing a toilet (gas wise) when i floored it, it was like an instant facelift. Her name was Aurora Louise Jasmin.

Mohito- a Seville- how PR.

I think she stated she had a 1994 BROUGHAM. Those were the really big ones, and quite different (Rear wheel drive, body on frame, 350 C.I. detuned Corvette engine) from the '92 being contemplated here. Still, her comments
as to build quality, repair history and other issues with Cadillac might be of interest.

Yes, she had a Bro-ham. It had a huge anchor hanging out of either side amd fighter pilots frequently landed on the hood by mistake.

Only naval pilots. They thought that they were landing on a carrier.

Maxine seems like a compact car by comparison.

'92-'96 Brougham

I liked them, actually thought about getting me a new one, back in 1996 right when they were about to quit making them. (1996 was the last year for them, and the factory in Arlington texas was switched over for the higher volume production of Yukons, Suburbans and Tahoes. GM announced they were going to keep building Broughams, in Mexico, but the Unions screamed and howled so loud GM gave up on the idea.)

I thought about a new Lincoln Town Car and Volvo S90 as well as a Brougham, but the 560SEC siren song called to me the loudest
