Story about it
Folks,
There is an interesting author, Martin Cruz Smith that has been writing novels about different eras in the Soviet Union / Russia. The "hero" of each of these stories is the same dectective. The list of novels I remember is: Gorky Park , Soviet Union in the 70's, corruption Polar Star, Soviet Union, 80's, international trade Red Square, Russia, after the fall, mafia and corruption Havana Nights, late 90's, the state of Cuba after the Soviet Union and the point of this.... Wolves eat Dogs, Russia and Chernobyl, trade in fissionable materials Supposedly Smith has very accurately depicted the situations and politics of each of these eras. In Wolves eat Dogs he speaks of the dead towns and motorcycle thiefs that escape into the high radiation areas. What an awful shame over there. We hosted a 9 year old girl for a summer a while back from Belorus. Her mom was pregnant during Chernobyl or just after. This girl has had 5 hip surgeries already among other health issues. All the land around their town is still contaminated, but they have no where else to grow any fresh vegetables. Chuck |

One of my closests friends (and upcoming groomsman) toured the site years ago as part of a team sent by the US government.
He entered the hospital ten days ago after collapsing in his home. I visited him again today. He is in intensive care and has been diagnosed with lung cancer, though he's never smoked. Makes you wonder....... :( |
The pictures and text remind me of the money Silent Hill.

I saw that a while ago and thought it remeinded me of Martin Cruz Smith's novel Dogs Eat Wolves (I think that's the correct title), his last book. There is a lot of scary stuff in the place formerly known as the USSR!

I saw it during a dark, stormy night in Santa Fe NM (I go there on a regular basis). It was in a dinky little theater, in a mall, off Cerrillos Road. Very creepy...I swear I could hear hwoling when I got out of the theater. There is a video game called Silent Hill, on which the movie is based. |
There's a movie of Dogs Eat Wolves? Really? I've never heard of it. I haven't been paying much attention to movies lately, I guess. I'd love to see it.

i enjoyed looking at the chernoble photos.
i visited a campground in i think kentucky, could have been tennessee. there was a lake and trails and a campground and a boat launch. i was exploring the beach and marina and discovered it was all abandoned! nananananananananan (those are twilight zone sounds). what the he))? i asked around and found that some accident had grossly polluted the lake so it could be used neither for swimming or fishing. kindof reminded me of the chernoble pics. thanks for sharing. tom w |

Just think how much medicine in the USA will improve once the two parties finally nationalize it. |
