21 years later, a testiment to the failures and stupidity of man.

The logical conclusion to a government that runs EVERYTHING . . . into the ground. At least in a capitalist country we know what motivates decisions, profit. In a country where every decision is made by faceless bureaucrats who knows WHAT is motivating them. It makes trying to figure out what's going wrong and why a lot harder.

This site has been posted a couple of times in OD...still creepy!

What's even creepier is the failing infrastructure in Russia today...plane crashes, careless building fires, no fire fighting crew within a 20-mile radius...any operational reactors left in that area?

Russia seems like an entire nation of low income renters. It doesn't appear that anybody takes care of anything. The contrast between Russia and China is remarkable considering they are both in the transition from Communist to Capitalist societies.

I saw the documentary on HBO about Chernobyl. pretty sad.

I've wondered about that too.

I also wonder whether corruption and crime have reached the same levels in China as they have in Russia.

I think that part of the "problem" is that China never went "democratic" while Russia tried it, in their own style, with the results that we now see.
