Why is my speedo' not working?

My speedo' on my latest project car (79 300CD) is not working. The odometer isn't working either. The fuel gauge is questionable.
The oil pressure, and temp gauges are working though.
This car sat for four and a half years in the back yard though. Any ideas on where to begin looking?

pull the dash, and make sure all your contacts are plugged in.

Speedos never worked for me either. I enjoy the personal freedom so, I guess I'm more of a 'trunks' man.

That car has a cable driven speedometer...electrical connections have nothing to do with it's operation. Check the drive cable for proper installaion on each end and for integrity...ie: that it's inner cable isn't broken.

AHH, Thanks a lot. So, FINALLY something on these cars that is set up just like a Chevy, and I can do it as easily. I figured it was going to be some ridiculous set up. Like the Vacuum door locks, on these cars...What kind of moron decided to put Vacuum door locks on these cars to begin with? EVERYTHING on these cars is vacuum operated, and I don't understand why... I like the "Cable" speedo. That's easy, and straight forward.. I figured people would be telling me to 'Check the vacuum lines, in the trunk" or under the hood. Didn't expect such a practical set-up. LOL Thanks..

Your Speedo isn't working because the potato goes in the front, not the back.

One of the very few things I dislike about Mercedes..Some systems are "Over Designed" and thought out a little, too much. Simplicity, is more desirable most of the time.

I think it can get messy with that stuff, arent there oil lines and junk that lead into some of the gauges?

You don't want to start the engine with the gauge cluster removed, you'll get a bath. The oil presssure gauge is mechanical.
