I am interested in purchasing some vacant land on which to build a home and given my broad parameters I do not know where to begin. I don’t believe the standard local agent can offer real help, so I am looking for suggestions of how to find what I want.
I do not have a specific location picked out other than it be in the South East. I want a place that seldom if ever gets snow. I enjoy the mountains and often vacation in up state South Carolina. I would consider upstate Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina as well as possibly Tennessee and North Carolina. I am looking for a minimum of 5 acres and I would like for the land to have some type of water feature such as a stream. The land obviously has to be buildable with access to electricity; otherwise, the more secluded the better. Beyond the above, I have no real requirements. I do not need to worry about employment, schools, the proximity of an airport or anything else of the like. So, how do I start my search to find what I’m looking for while getting the most bang for my buck? I would think that an area economically depressed may offer the best value for my needs, but maybe that is myopic.
