Tom, Google around and see if you can find video of the making of Grand Prix. It is fabulous.

Thanks Larry, I'll look around at that. I do know quite a few facts about it though as it was such a big thing in the car world which I have hanged out in since about 1960 For example they used a Ford GT40 to carry a camera in it. Also I believe they used the 1950 Caddy coupe that Briggs Cunningham raced at LeMans in 1950. For its day it used the very latest film technology. I believe it was one of those filmed with surround screens and cameras Cinerama(?) I believe it may have been called. I went to see it at the drive in in 1966 with my first (to be later) wife. Unfortunately beyond the initial scene where the camera backs out of the exhaust we did not see much of the movie.

I don't know if you were talking about the movie I mentioned, but if you were, I was not talking about HEARTBREAK Ridge, I was talking about HACKSAW Ridge. It is probably still in theaters and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Well, it looks like you can operate pretty much normally here. Cool. I will miss Hacksaw ridge probably due to its producer. Used to love Mel but have been unable to watch him in anything since his public Jew Rant and his unfaithfulness to his wife of many years and six or so kids. He's on the must miss list along with Woody Allen and that director who had sex with children.....name escapes me.

Film festival was here last week. Saw 'Dogs' a Romanian film. Liked it, kind of a Romanian No Country for Old Men. Also saw The Ornithologist, one of the strangest movies I have seen in quite a while but I enjoyed it. It's a riff on the legend of St. Anthony of Padua.

				Sully

I just finished watching Sully. I don't know how accurate it was but it was a realistic looking rendition of one of the most exciting events I can remember. I imagine all folks aboard the plane felt exhilarated when it was over, kindof like when Churchill said "there is nothing more exhilarating than being shot at with no effect". The film depicted the plane having to fly beside the GW bridge tower and when it hit the water the cockpit appeared to go completely under water for a moment. But everybody kept their cool and made a spectacular rescue. Where but in the Hudson would you have three ferry boats there in minutes to take passengers off the wing in freezing weather? Wonderful story, excellent movie!

Watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri last night. Great movie! Dark comedy. Best movie of this type I've seen in many years. Should get some Oscar nominations IMO. |

I think a high percentage of pilots would have done exactly what Sully did. (Not trying to belittle his performance.)

It’s pretty accurate. The final landing zone was just opposite the Port Imperial ferry terminal in Edgewater NJ. That part of the river is always busy with small ferry boats. A mile or two south and the story may not have ended so well.
