everyone is getting them

Motorcycles.. most of my friends received motorcycles(crotch rocket style) as grad gifts. Well the parents put the down payment and the first payment on them . My friend got a Ninja .. 80$ a month and 25$ for insurance... I myself have never ridden or piloted one of these machines. Closest I came to was a super moto dirt bike... which was fun. He let me sit on his and it felt cool and different. I doubt I would ever get one. I like a shell of steel around me.

What a nice present. What's the average life expectancy for a new teenage Ninja rider?

Wait until you're older and have the need for speed completely out of your blood before embarking on that path.

I thought of getting a motorcycle once, then figured it would be cheaper to just beat my knees and face with a baseball bat and hurl myself down several flights of stairs before calling 911. Same result, but I would save a bunch of money.

When I was a kid in New Mexico, the law was you could get a scooter license at 13 (?!?). Law said 5 hp or less which was about what a Honda 50 had. But they never checked on it. I managed to talk my dad into buying me a Suzuki 150 (16 hp), twin cylinder, at age 14, which made me the big man at Jr. High, where everything else was single cylinder.

A few months later, an older lady didn't see me and blew through a yield sign, breaking my leg and scratching me up pretty good. I'm lucky as hell I didn't suffer worse. I used to do some crazy stuff on it. Like lying down on the seat to see how fast I could go. I got it up to 70 once, with semis roaring by, me lying down on the seat with my face up by the handlebars.

I cant see myself on two wheels. I dont like to go fast with nothing (such as a car body to absorb the impact) around me.

Prosthetic limb manufacturers are always happy to see the latest crotch rocket gracing the showroom floor.

Really bad idea to give speed crazed kids one of these machines. They require specialized education, training, and skills development to ride. It's not just a two wheeled car. Doubt any of the parents were savvy enough to ante up for the MSF riding course or to purchase and insist the kids wear full protective gear.

BTW, falling down stairs won't successfully simulate crashing. You forgot the step where you sand your skin off with 150 grit sandpaper first.

FYI, current 600cc sportbikes weigh about 350lbs and have ~120HP. Call it 3lb/HP. For comparison the CL65 (612HP) coupe is 8.05lb/HP - not even close to these bikes.

I ride an old man's bike with only 145HP

A friend of mine was a med school student when the rear wheel of his motorcycle slid out after encountering some road debris while making a turn at an intersection. He wasn't traveling particularly fast, was wearing a helmet, and died on the spot from head/neck injuries. That pretty much kept my ass off of a motorcycle during my adulthood, even though I get a strong urge to buy one every few years.

Get a Zundapp, yo. Almost as fast as a lawnmower and at least as obnoxious.

My friends all have mopeds. Does that count?

I just got my Yamaha LB-50PE Chappy Running. It goes an impressive 20 MPH!

he might be paying 80 bucks a month now but,the way they set up the low payment loans is you get that for like the first 12 or 24 months then your payments jump as does the interest to like 24%.you don't read the fine print you read the reeeeeally fine print.

Ninja is a great starter bike... not a speed demon, people.

I kind of want a Ducati 996, I may get one in the next five years or so, I'm not sure.

I know if I did get a bike it would be a good one, like a Ducati or a BMW touring bike. No Japanese crotch rockets.

Howdy All,
Fell off too many dirt bikes. Figured I didn't want to tangle with cars on the street bikes.
