I read that he's one lazy mo-fo. Laissez-faire, maannnn...

GottaDiesel 06-06-2007 07:09 PM

He was an atty before he was an actor... funny that there is so many acting comments and how it trumps other things. Yet, many idolized Ron Ray-Gun...

Go figure.

Consider the red truck ...

Read up on Thompson's phony "red truck" stunt when he was running for Senate. It was all part of his average guy act. And it was fake. Calculating and fake, and contemptuously so. Lucky for him, the media bought it.

Essentially, Thompson would have this red pickup truck brought to campaign events. He would climb out of his limo, get in the truck, and then drive in to the event himself, and then talk about what a regular guy he was.

Fake. Fake. Fake.

I wouldn't mind the red truck fakery so much if Thompson didn't lie about it all the time, and if he didn't STILL feature the truck again in his current publicity for his presidential run. There was an article in the Washington Post a couple of days ago where Thompson trotted out the godd@mned red truck again to show what a good ol' boy he really is. Not a lawyer and Hollywood actor, really. Just ol' Fred. The kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with and talk NASCAR.

Thompson is not a stupid guy, but he had a notably undistinguished single term as a Senator -- he didn't do much, and his colleagues didn't particular respect him -- and he quit after one term because he got bored.

Really -- this sort of B.S. is NOT what the country needs right now. No matter how flawed the rest of the Republican field is. No matter how much the party chieftans will now try to claim Thompson is the new Reagan.

By the way ... did anyone else notice Romney's whopper in last night's debate about Saddam Hussein not letting the UN arms inspectors in ... so we HAD to go to war? Dang, the guy will just say ANYTHING to please a crowd!

I liked this quote my self

Rep. Duncan Hunter of California said he believes the United States should communicate with Iran despite what he termed its constant state sponsorship of terrorism. (Watch Hunter call immigration plan a 'bad bill' Video)

But he also warned that he would not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapons program.

"I would authorize the use of tactical nuclear weapons if there was no other way to preempt those particular centrifuges," Hunter said.

I thought maybe I liked the guy at first but now am singularly unimpressed. The guy's a poser. Did you see this video?

My loud gun buddy could only stand to watch half of it. It's the shots of him speaking worn out lines that really stands out more than the narration thought they make some good points.

Hunter is a strange bird, IMHO. Has all the charm of a post. I'll win the lottery before he's president.

Fred Thompson coming to Israel

Fred Thompson, US presidential hopeful and former star of the hit television series “Law & Order,” is scheduled to make his first visit to Israel in the coming days.
Thompson, who is said to have a fair chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination, will meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and various other senior officials during his tour of Israel.
Of the dozen or so candidates contesting the nomination, Thompson is among the most supportive of Israel.
The former actor, who has also served as a US senator, bucked popular international sentiment by insisting in a hard-hitting editorial column that Israel has been almost too careful in its war on Palestinian terrorism.
“Israel is at war,” Thompson wrote for the conservative website Townhall.com. And the Jewish state has gone to “incredible lengths to stop the war against them without harming Palestinian non-combatants.”
Thompson is also on record as supporting an Israeli military strike against Iran should international diplomacy fail to prevent the Islamic Republic from obtaining nuclear arms. More liberal political elements in Israel fear Thompson may be too far to the right, and therefore end up harming Israel. During his time as a senator, Thompson was one of the sponsors of the Jerusalem Embassy Act demanding that the US government move its embassy to the Israeli capital in defiance of Palestinian claims to the city.

Yeah -- the Red Truck thing and his Israel stand pretty much turned me off at this point. Oh well...

Isn't it amazing how most any significant American politician, before being approved into office or during their office term, has to follow suit on the procedure of paying their visits to our 'Middle East Ally' ...
