I don't know what to think of the Fairness Doctrine, but it speaks to a problem that I have with on-air media.

That problem is, the airwaves are public, but are sold to private enterprise for a song (this happens with other public resources). The public should benefit most. I'm not sure that regular radio shows (like Rush, for example) need to be balanced, but I think that irregular programming (like paid political ads) probably should be. Actually, I think that all political ads should be free, as a cost of doing business; of course, the can of worms that this opens is huge as well.

However, allowing a fickle congress to set the rules for each station also sounds like a really bad situation.

The FCC is all about censorship, and so is the Fairness Doctrine. Anyone who believes they can turn a profit delivering an opposing message to that forwarded by hate radio is free to do so, are they not?

The news media should not be strictly motivated by profit. If this were the situation, then there would be no requirement for any honesty in broadcasting whatsoever.

In similar manner to Dan Rather making an "error in judgment" and broadcasting facts that were not truthful, all media outlets should be held to the same standard as 60 minutes.

The fact that they are not, and any talking head can spout whatever he pleases to a public that is not the smartest bunch in the world is not a good situation.

The twisted information that is presented on some of these stations is abysmal. I'm quite sure that most of the group listening to such stations have no clue as to the facts or the fiction.

Hate radio is not news, it's just blabber. And what are you advocating? Government intervention to broadcast leftist hate radio to an audience that's too smart to listen? How is Air America doing these days?

Just be thankful that you don't count yourself among the legion of mindless fools who need to be told what to think.

Indeed, you have the right to publish your views, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

But the airwaves are a public resource, yet I am not allowed to erect a tower and start broadcasting without authorization. Those with authorization are free to spread their views; the rest are silent. And that authorization comes cheap, for what is gained by the broadcaster. Too cheap.

The mindless fools are dangerous. Get enough of them together and they can elect a total and complete moron.

The more mindless fools that are permitted to spout their incessant BS over the public airwaves, the more dangerous such a scenario can become.

It doesn't take much to sway one of these fools. Just hit his one hot button, and you've got him.............

If you think that right-wing radio is "converting" free-thinking individuals, I believe you're sadly mistaken. These folks appeal to their own weak-minded followers, and only polarize others. By seeking to promote a similar, but leftist on-air agenda, you're just sinking to the same polarizing, hate-mongering level. Rise above the fray, and stay there!

Believe me, I am all for the disappearance of the right-wing AM radio hate machine, but it cannot be legislated away at the expense of our basic freedoms. At some point, reason is bound to take hold and sweep this obscenity away to the same dustbin of history that holds McCarthyism.

There is a gray zone.

There are people who can be manipulated. They are not completely free thinkers and they are not the weak minded followers.

There are quite a few of these people and it's not a good situation when a constant barrage of false information is propagated on the airwaves. Such people do not even realize they are being manipulated.

Some of these same people have made the comment, "If it wasn't true, they couldn't broadcast it........."

Scary $hit.

However, we got the lawn mowed, and I will probably hang a few curtain rods this evening; perhaps I'll take the initiative and get out to the range tomorrow.

If so, you can take some of the credit.

Cool........I may get to the range tomorrow also...;)
