...would you end up terrorist attacks by people who have no concept about the value of life, such as the assassins who flew planes into the WTC or recently set bombs to go off in London or drove a flaming SUV into glasgow's Airport?

How would you stop them?

What measures would you take to eliminate the threat that they pose to modern civilization?

tell them they can do it all they want.. in theory it should work ;)

No idea yet on prevention, however, maybe the punishment could be a deterrent. I would slowly inject them with pig's blood until he/she is almost dead. Then I would let 50-100 relatives of victims into the room, and let them have a crack at him/her with a bat (not the head though...he/she should be aware of the pain). Then, while immobilized, I would suffocate him by piling pigs on top of him/her.
Afterwards, stuff him/her into a leakproof container, and ship him/her back to the country from which he/she came (along with a nice note/video describing how he/she died, and that this will be cheerfully repeated to anybody else wishing to practice terrorism in the U.S.)

My son just came back from a summer trip to england. He was in London and just missed the whole thing by a few days.

If ANYTHING had happened to him, I would be among the relatives taking batting practice on the scum.

I know people will say that punishment is not a deterent, but since none of them has ever been punished in a manner as creative as you suggest, then we really don't know for sure.

Once you have identified any "terrorist, potential terrorist, wannabe terrorist" you immediately identify, and exterminate their top 10 closest relatives/acquaintances. Once this unavoidable reality is clearly understood by the vast majority of people, it will only take a short time before the threatened innocents will take care of all those who put them at mortal risk. Human nature and the survival instinct will take over and the individuals who put others at risk will be eliminated and destroyed. This would take a strong and determined society to exact this response and it is doubtful if that still exists. Society will need to manipulate circumstances to enable human nature to act in the collective interest; terrorists now exist because in some small or large measure they are accepted even celebrated, but if their existence is a mortal threat to those in close proximity things would be different.

The best contemporary model for this "manipulation" was the response of the Soviets to the kidnapping of their people in Beirut in the 80’s; they immediately had their Speznaz grab the family members of the terrorist leadership and threatened their extermination in retaliation. Their people where released and the "terrorists" knew from that point the result of screwing with the wrong people would be very bad! If your entire family knew they would be killed if you engage in the wrong activities they will make sure you don’t do that!

I agree. The principle is called "using a firm hand early on". I would say, to get the message across,one would peremptorily and savagely butcher the entire immediate family of the terrorist(s), including the mothers and small children, and drench the remains with pig's blood, with a video, then ship it back.

We are talking about what would WORK, so methods that would not do in the European Courts of Human Rights would not apply. They are barbaric savages, and total violence and humiliation is simply the only language they understand. Saddam knew this very well, and used it very effectively to suppress dissidents.

In Saudi Arabia, for instance, the penalty for theft is having the hand of the thief cut off. Barbaric? Perhaps.

But consider this: It is VERY safe there. They only had to cut off six hands in the last year, I believe.

Not a question that has a identifiable solution. But if state sponsored, there are several countries that would be prime candidates to receive a few nuclear warning shots as a deterrent/warning to stop the BS, or else face total annihilation.

Truth of the matter is that all of the bullets and bombs now being used over in Irak and Trashkanistan should have been dipped in pig fat at point of manufacture!!!!
