I don't know about the vega, but the corvair was called a yenko stinger. There is a father and son in central indiana who show up with yenko stingers at the scca autocrosses. One of them has a buick blower and one has a huge turbocharger. One also is a shortened early body with no roof too. The older fellow was pretty friendly at the last autocross...he liked my 280e I think....cause it was almost as unlikely as his corvair....but not nearly as fast.
