Living Will

Last night, my wife and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug."

She got up, unplugged the TV and then threw out my beer.

that's pretty funny. I wouldn't have thrown out the beer though- a waste of good brew. On a more serious note, a living will is important not only for you but those you leave behind in your wake (pun intended) I have one which has my instructions and wishes. No funeral just one giant party....With a movie showing of Blazzing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, I want people laughing after I am gone.

That happened both with my beloved Gramps and my Mother.

They both had living wills AND advanced health care directives which essentially gave me authorisation for any medical treatment or lack thereof should they become incapacitated.

With Gramps it was very quick, the way he wanted it,my Mom endured 5 days of slow, visible, coherent decline before she went to her great reward. The docs wanted to put her on a respirator and do all manner of unnecessary surgery but the health care proxy stopped that nonsense.

She knew what was happening and welcomed release which came slowly but at least they gave her a morphine drip.

This is why I think Dr. Kevorkian will someday be recognized as being ahead of his time.

I thought it was hilarious, Al. Sorry I didn't give you your props earlier--I had actually forwarded it to my wife
