Sorta screwed an oil co.

Today I was just sittin there readin threads when a couple guys from Valero energy came to purchase some material. Just some copper electrical wires and stuff. When I was getting the order ready, it came to me that it just cost me 60 bucks to fill up my car at a Valero station. when I wrote up the order, I decided to raise their prices up so I would feel better.

I think what JD was trying to *politely* imply was that two wrongs don't make a right.

It wasn't that bad. 320 dollars profit on a 1000 dollar order. normally it would be about 200ish. That company won't even blink twice at that bill. There are times when money can be made, and there a time when you have to give it away at a small profit, and this was a good opp. to make a few extra bucks.

They won't have to blink twice, they'll just charge you more for gas to make up for it in the future.

That's how it works. When prices go up, they go up all around. You shouldn't feel bad.

In a capitalist system, you charge what the market will bear.

No different than Macys charging $45.00 for a shirt that they purchase for $5.00. Eventually, if the market won't pay $45, they mark the shirt down to $20 and sell the remainder of the stock.

In your case, you presumably have competitors that keep your prices in check. You charge what you please until the customer realizes that you are ripping him off and he goes to a competitor.

It's the American way.

We have a sign behind the counter. " PRICES SUBJECT TO CHANGE... ACCORDING TO CUSTOMER'S ATTITUDE ". Also when someone comes in and asks for a part that I have, and then proceed to tell me how bad they need it and can't find it anywhere else, I stick it too em and they leave happy. Don't worry. If any of you guys ever need electrical supplies, I wont stick it to ya. Not too bad anyway. besides, if you ever need to buy stuff at home depot, they really do stick it to you on some stuff.

People that I liked paid a lot less though...

For example if I make you a sandwich and you are a jerk, you pay $4.99. If you are cool $3.99.
