It's Hump Day again already! Still busy trying to get the SEC in shape to get the inspection sticker. Last night I mowed (that's twice a week right now!), and tonight I'll be defoliating the forest at the North end of the property, or what I like to call "Poison Ivy Acres."

Last night I rose to heady new levels of admiration and appreciation in my younger daughter's eyes when I gave her the keys to Max, and let her head out of the neighborhood onto the main road near our house. What a great feeling! I don't know which one of us felt better, her or me. Her older sister has let her drive with her in the neighborhood a couple of times, but this was a bold new adventure.

Good times, good times . . .

I pick up the ML today from the dealer...first "A" service completed.

I got an ML350 CDI as a loaner vehicle...I actually like it! Engine performs as well (or better) as my 350 gasser!

That's awesome Dee8go.:D

I wish my first few drives in a car with my dad were as positive. I was nervous and paranoid with my dad screaming and grabbing at the wheel. He had a hard time with giving up control.:D:D

Times like this are rare and priceless. I wouldn't trade them for anything. There's nothing like being "the hero" to your kids. The older they get, the less opportunities you have to be that.

I learned how to drive when I was thirteen. I drove trucks, tractors, and other farm machinery all the time. Somebody just gave me the keys to a pickup truck one day and said to "drive that truck over here." I've been driving ever since. My dad was never around enough to teach me how to drive. I occassionaly took his or my mother's car out for a spin, clandestinely. We lived in a small town sort of like Mayberry. There weren't a lot of other cars on the road, so it wasn't too dangerous for me or the other drivers.

Beautiful day outside. I love Spring and summer when it isn't raining.

I have finally finished the box I have been making to give to my mother for Mother's Day! Woohoo! It's Mahagony with inlays of Maple and the interior is made of very thin pieces of quarter sawn oak. I finished it with three coats of shellac and fifty coats of laquer, sanded between evry coat. Then, I wet sanded it with grits from 320 to 2000, rubbed it with pumice stone, then rottenstone. Now, I just have to give it a coat of paste wax and buff the hell out of it. I have to wear protective goggles lest I be blinded by the glare on that thang.

I started driving tractors and trucks off road when I was 13-14. My first road experience (and actually my brother's and sister's as well) was with my father's '66 Corvette (fret you not, far from original and he drives the hell out of it) because he insisted we learn to drive on a standard shift. It was actually the ideal learning vehicle because it's virtually impossible to stall in any of the 1st 3 gears even if dumping the clutch with no pressure on the accelerator.

Needless to say he created a monster.
