A shaker of Manhattan's....

G-Benz 07-25-2007 11:12 AM

A good day for me...made up with the wife (now back from her visit). She saw the dent she put in the 07 ML for the first time while it sat in the body shop. We all joked about it, since there was an 07 Escalade also residing at the body shop. Owner's wife creamed the entire rear backing into the garage!

Getting ready to apply the first glaze coat on the media room walls. Base coat looks good as do the other paint finishes on the other walls. Overall, a cool execution, despite the odd color scheme.

TheDon 07-25-2007 11:24 AM

she dented it? ouch

Today is rather boring... I'm looking at car brochures ^_^

Exciting stuff like ordering next year's estimated supply of peas, beans, corn and small vegetable seeds.

ramonajim 07-25-2007 11:39 AM

Trying to convince myself to go ahead and inject my enbrel - not because that is a new/different/scary event - but because doc has been helping me fiddle with my drug mix. Been taking enbrel for several months - no side effects and huge improvements on all fronts except my eye.

Adding methotrexate weekly has FINALLY brought my chronic iritis under control, but taking it orally has meant that the one day a week I take it is shot. One day a week of feeling flu-like, hit by a truck, hips, shoulders, and knees throbbing, cranky, brain addled crap. To the point of not being sure that saving sight in one eye is worth the cost.

Old regimen was oral methotrexate early Wednesday morning, enbrel injection late Wednesday morning. By noon it's hit the fan. By Thursday morning I'm back to normal.

New plan is injectable methotraxate Tuesdays, injectable enbrel Wednesdays. Got the methotraxate yesterday, and didn't get the side effects. Now I've got to inject the enbrel knowing that it might kick my arse an hour or two down the road. Sigh.

Other than that, loverly marine layer outside looks like it is going to keep this another beautifully cool and reasonably damp coastal SoCal day.

Funny you should ask. I just had this exchange over the VHF with DJ:

Looking good, Louis!!
Feeling good, Billy Ray!!

Nice day here. Only 93 for a high.
Have to run to the Honda shop for a set of brake pads for the Odyssey.
Have to figure out the TCS and ABS light issue on it.
Will finish prepping the family room for the new laminate floors that go down tomorrow.
With all the furniture and carpet out, it’s looking like a good time for fresh paint too.
Have to start packing and prepping for a boat shoot (photos) down in Houston next week.
DJ has three students today, so she’s up pulling Gs all day, as usual.

Or - I may just say screw it all for today, and take the kids wakeboarding. :D Grapevine is at +20’, I hear. May just have to go check it out.

Happy Hump Day to you too !!

But - Why would they call it “hump day”, when most folks get laid on the weekend?

(I know....that’s an old one....:o)

suginami 07-25-2007 12:53 PM

I'm hanging out at a photography studio for a photo shoot for a new product line.

As I'm surfing the forum, I'm watching the food stylist do her thing with the layout, while the graphic designer is laying out the products for the "beauty shot" for the sell sheets.

My day is going great except for a little truck snafu i had with a customer this morning. i went over to the customer to supervise the driver and the loading, the driver felt like it was too much material on his truck.

Anyhow, I am feeling WAY better since I started Cymbalta a little over a month ago, and I'm looking more fabulous every day since i finally broke the 200 lb barrier this morning. I'm now 199 lbs. and i plan to go to at least 185 before i start maintaining. From a high weight of 350 lbs two years ago, it's amazing to me.

G-Benz 07-25-2007 02:38 PM

Reprise: The good stuff continues...

The component that I patiently waited for the price to drop was red-tagged yesterday at about $150 down from the usual price (demo unit, but doesn't see much use). Today, they dropped it another $22! As I strolled by another display with my new procured treasure in my cart, I found a 5.1 mp digital camera for $30! A demo of course, but the same brand that I got my daughter for Christmas (at $129 back then). She has since dropped it enough that it no longer works. So now she has a replacement camera that is even better than the one the originally had!

Congrats, man, that is amazing! That's a whole other person gone! I hoping to get down to about 235 from 270. When I got married I got down to 225 from 275, but 11 years and 4 kids (and wife's pregnancy feedings) later I managed to put them on again. I starting walking every crack of dawn 2 weeks ago and they're starting to come off again.

Glad the good luck has visited you Bill!! Keep up the fight.

WVO--what type of laminate floor are you putting in? I called my bil in the biz (we were partners in the biz) and what my wife wanted was $4.25--his cost. I say ok, sounds good--order 1100 sq. ft. My wife found it on ebay(thank god before he placed the order) for $.59/sq. foot with a pallet (1300 sq. ft.) min purchase:eek:

Yes, walking puts a diet into overdrive. i did it too once upon a time but I've lost my walking/balancing skills for now. I can walk short distances with a cane but that's about it. Looking forward to improvements in that area too.

Thanks for the encouragement Mistress and Mr. Doe!:)

Not to sound like an AH. But:
The only laminate flooring I’ll put in my house.:D

Uniclic by Quick-Step
It’s made in Belgium.
http://www.quick-step.com/

I’ve worked with just about everything they offer at the local DIY superstores.
Nothing they have, even comes close.

As for cost. Don’t ask. It ain't cheap.
I got lucky, and traded some flight time for one heck of a supply. Just over 4500 sq.ft. of the stuff. Did the kids rooms, toy/play room, office and media rooms first. Now the family room to start the down-stairs. Next - The entry, hall, living and dining rooms.
Awesome stuff to work with. HIGHLY recommended.

It is, hot, hot, hot here today in the tri-state area of DC, MD and VA. Work is kinda slow so I been surfin today....

Larry Delor 08-01-2007 04:49 PM

Rained here most of the day. Mostly uneventful so far.

The Swede 08-01-2007 05:47 PM

A customer owed me money, shut MY office door in my face.

I broke through it. He backed off, but a piece of door laminate cut his face. Scared the **** out of him. I broke my nose and my hand.

Such is the car business. We made up and I got my check. Friends for life.

I bought a commercial auto detail biz. The car dealers are great, ditto smaller used lots. The problem people are the wholesalers. Drunks, coke heads, on third wife, --- you name it.

I totally lost my cool and almost lost a customer. He has a history of being an pia. Funny thing is tha one hour later, we shake hands and agree to work together -- and move on. Fine with me.

Edit: Purpose of my post is not to be a tough guy, but wanted to vent. Really bad day. One of the worst in a looooong time. Move on....

My Wednesday

Didn't see this yesterday . . .

Took a vacation day. Brought the W202 to the upholstery shop for a new headliner; the old was starting to flutter like a sail in the breeze. Cabbed back to my place. Surfed, found I'd won a couple of eBay auctions.

After lunch, upholstery shop called. All done -- and they'd found what had been causing my persistent rattle over bumps: an acorn, trapped between the sunshade and the roof (!).

Cabbed back, picked up car. Wonderful to drive after the floatiness of the Crown Vic cabs. No rattle yet!

Evening, read a 1963 Alfred Hitchcock collection of supernatural/crime/suspense stories. Good stuff. . . .

I'm just putting it in the girls' rooms upstairs for allergy reasons. When they grow up it will be gone. Tarkett 25 year product so it isn't that bad. We live in a somewhat significant historic property and could never put anything but the period hardwoods in the formal upstairs and entire downstairs areas. Barter system is great, no?

I'm hiding in my A/C office trying to look busy so I don't have to venture out into the warehouse.

I'm taking a page out of the George Costanza Guide To The Workplace by looking frustrated and ocassionally sitting back in my chair and either sighing or rubbing my temples. So far so good!

Dee8go 08-08-2007 01:38 PM

Then, later on you can crawl under your desk and take a nap, just like George!

If I didn't have almost a foot and probably 70 lbs. on him I'd give it a shot. If I tried to squeeze myself under my desk I'd need the Jaws of Life to get me out!

Dee8go 08-08-2007 01:52 PM

Better buy a bigger desk, at least a one bedroom unit. Then you can get rid of that efficiency desk you've been sitting at for all these years.

In a few years when I'm President I'll make that jump :)

Dee8go 08-08-2007 01:58 PM

Shoot, then you can have a "suite" desk with a kitchen, dining area and a marble foyer.

I'd have a tough time getting it past the Board. A one bedroom unit is doable, though. I'm a pretty modest guy.

I would have thought that vertical, or at least perpendicular to the "other plane" would also be good. :D

As much as I sweat, I'd drown if I shaved my head. I did get mine cut a lot shorter than usual this year and I can feel the sweat running down my scalp. If I didn't have some hair up there to slow it down and channel it off to the sides, I'd be in real trouble!
