Hatty, go do the MMA thing. It would be a good move.
R Leo, I just returned from a meeting at TAMU-G. Spent a day with oceanography and life sciences profs discussing areas of potential interaction with my employer. What's your kid's interest?

My guy was probably here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwestern_Michigan_College

TAMU-G has a maritime facility, too, I think.

Yep, Merchant Marine...he was a boatswain in the CG. Loved being at sea.

BTW, Dad used to deckhand for Rice on their earth science boat. They kept it there in the small boat basin at TAMU-G. It was Dr. Anderson's toy...we talked about him the other day, remember?

My little brother joined the CG after college and loves it. Of course the first few years sucked but once he got some rank and clout under his belt he has IMO one of the best jobs you could get it the CG. Dangerous but cool.

I have a list of faculty that I met while down there but it's on my work computer. Anderson doesn't ring a bell. The only blue water guy I met was an oceanographer interested in sperm whale breeding grounds off the MS River distributary and Corpus Christi. My responsibility ends at the shoreline so we didn't have much to say to each other but I'd relish the opportunity to go deep and blue.

Anderson is at Rice.

When they were running R/V Lone Star it was all brown water thumping and vibracoring along the Texas coast. Sometimes, they'd lease it to whatever university is in Homestead, FL and go down to Belize and core the reefs for 3 or 4 months. Tough job but someone has to do it.

Ah, now I recall the conversation.

Old-age and substance abuse takes it's toll.

Thing One did one enlistment and got out...he was in Maine and then in Alaska. Liked the boat/crew (black hulled '65) in Maine but hated the place, liked Alaska but hated what he called 'white hull BS' that came with the boat there.

TO has great stories about patrolling the MEB in the Bering Sea. Once they boarded and seized a Russian vessel that came across the line...towed it 800 miles back to Dutch.

Later guys...calling it a night.

Correct. http://www.maritime.edu/l2.cfm?page=84

I'm thinking of taking my International Business degree that I am halfway through at SCSU, and converting it to an International Maritime Business degree at MMA. But its all up in the air now, I can't say for sure one way or another. I really need to talk with MMA and other then a few emails I have not, tomarrow I'm making it a point to call them. I'd kind of like to go to sea for awhile and have some fun before settling down and doing the RE thing.

However I did get kind of a job offer @ $30 an hour ($62K per year) because of my SCSU degree. I would do purchasing at a large aircraft company, I'm not going to persue it at this point.

Can I get in to see the secret firearms collection inside the hidden compartments in the false, double walls?
