My 300CE totaled this morning...

On my way to work my 300CE was reare-ended by a "distracted" driver. Traffic was moving at around 40- 50 mph in a rural road near my home when the otehr driver plowed into the back of my car.

The other driver told the CHP officer that he looked down "only for a second" and then "there was that car (my car)." He never even stopped, never even laid a single inch of skid mark. My car (and me) stopped his mini-van. the force of the impact nearly pushed my car into incoming traffic.

The passenger cabin of the 300CE is intact, no damage no deformation, but the force of the impact was so great that it tore a hole on the trunk floor, did a considerable amount of damage, including "flaking off" the paint where the rear side panels buckled and it even managed to force the sunroof panel (the inner liner panel, not the steel panel) to partially retract. These are great cars, they are designed to protect the driver and occupants. So I guess "Beowulf" gave up its "life" in order to protect me.

I am fairly OK, except my body is sore all over. They called the paramedics because my blood pressure and blood sugar skyrocketed and wanted to take me to the ER, but I refused to go (I hate hospitals and I hate ERs).

I just did an Autotrader search and there is not a single red 300CE to be had within a 200 miles radius of my home. I am so bummed out.

Fortunately, no one was seriously wrong, but now Beowulf will be on its way to the scrap yard.

I will post pictures later.

Rotten news about the CE, Ernesto - what a beautiful car!

Glad, of course, to hear that you didn't join it by getting "totaled" yourself. It reminds me again of one of the reasons I'd like to move to a W124.

Ernesto, I'm very sorry to hear about this. The pictures you have show a beautiful, pristine car. I'm sure you'll miss her.

Do reconsider getting checked out to make sure there isn't anything wrong with you. A lot of the time with car accidents you don't really feel it until the next day. If you're already sore, you could feel worse tomorrow. Even rare 300CE's can be replaced, but you've just got one body to work with.

I'm glad to hear you're ok.

Dang. That sucks.

Actually it does not suck. You are okay, so all is fine. You'll be sore - really sore - for some time. I got T-boned at 50 MPH as square as can be about 18 months ago and it probably took eight or ten months before the soreness was totally gone, especially when playing golf.

There was a nice, red 300CE for sale on Benzworld for a while, I don't know if it's still there. Chicago area, unfortunately.

You could always get in touch w/ Bruce on this forum as he often has a couple of really fantastic SECs available...

Man, that really sucks but at least you're o.k. Beautiful car.

Is it just me or is there an inordinate amount of members here who get hit while driving their cars? With all of the forums I visit during the day (including automotive related ones) where everyone posts everything about their daily lives, I've never seen the amount of "totalled" or "hit" or "accident" posts as I have here.

Do these cars have targets on them that are only visible to non-M-B drivers?

Beowulf was red? You'd think that nitwit could have seen a RED car! I'm glad you're okay, Ernesto. It's surprising how one sometimes feels in the aftermath of being in a wreck, kind of like somebody beat you up.

Good luck with finding Beowulf Jr.

Of course, I am wondering if there wasn't a cell phone involved. I hate minvans, too.

Maybe the ones in the lesser cars aren't able to tell us about it afterward?

All those "lesser cars" are out to get the MB's. It's a conspiracy . . .

Ah crap. Sorry to hear about the car, good to hear you're OK.

You should get a lawyer.

Glad you came out of it in one piece. That's the most important thing.

I'd look at the replacement car as an oppurtunity. Of course, you're not going to find a car as rust free and pristine anywhere else but SoCal, but shop around and see if what you want might be somewhere else geographically. Then you can make a road trip of it, assuming you find the right car. Might not be too bad driving back from say Texas or somewhere. Or you could just wait and see for a while here and see what turns up. Mr. MB Motors might have a line on something you'd be interested in...

Man, that's crappy news Ernesto! Sorry to hear about it. You should get checked out though, don't be a tough guy. There can be damage from the impact - when your body goes from 40 mph to a stop quickly, there is tissue damage, no doubt about it. Question is extent. It could be muscle or also nerve/connective tissues. If you take steps to allow proper healing (braces, etc.) now, it can pay off in spades in the long run. Those W124s were tough cars, that is for sure. Mine got rear-ended twice and still ran well after being repaired.

Off the soapbox, I hope you find a nice replacement. Maybe you'll get lucky like Paul (suginami) did and get an even nicer replacement! Didn't Beowulf have a son/daughter anyway?

All the best,
C.

Appalling luck there matey. Glad you're in one piece though! I always feel safe in my c124.

You'll probably feel the physical effects within the next 2 days,,,,,, I know my pains were held-off for 24 hours by adrenaline and seething-anger a couple of times when I've been in accidents. (I've been in 4,,,, call me unlucky,,, none were my fault).
