Question HotWire.com, anyone using it for travel?

With diesel fuel out-of-sight, I'm going to start traveling by air.

Yes, I'll leave my beautiful kerosene-burner at the airport, and take flight using their kerosene-burner.

Anyone using HotWire.com regularly and consistently for good pricing and service?

Any nightmare stories, on travel day with them? Cost savings, etc.?

Thanks!

I usually check HW, Travelocity and Hotels.com and then pick the best deal. they are all pretty much the same. I have also used priceline in the past. That one is different withthe bidding on rooms dealthey have. It worked for me in NYC when I got a great room at the Tribeca Grand for New Year's Eve for under $150 a couple years ago. The hotel charges about $350-400 normally!

I haven't used HotWire but I do use Travelocity regularly for business travel. Sometimes slightly better fares can be found directly from the airlines but the fares are always in the general vicinity, sometimes they're lower. I don't usually have the time to screw around with it and use it for its ease. I've never had any problems with it and like it, I'd imagine HotWire is similar.

The services work well if you don't really care who you fly with, although they do give you a list of airlines to the destinations with their fares. Some people like to fly with specific airlines to rack up their mileage points but I don't really care. Besides, Travelocity has their own mileage point program that can be used through them for comp points.

A lot of the salesmen I work with who travel a lot more than I do use hotwire.com. They'll wait until the afternoon they need a room or a flight, log onto hotwire, and usually get very good prices.

That would make me nervous. I loke to plan ahead.

I use Hotwire for hotel rooms and have been quite pleased with it. Can almost always get a three or four star hotel for $60-$80. That's impossible on any other site other than Priceline.

I try Priceline on occasion, but my price calibration is not matched to their pricing in many cases. I think I know the market, but cannot get the room at the typical price. They force you to wait 24 hours to attempt again.........so...........go pound sand.........
