But Bot is right, they are usually ugly and funky shaped. There is a raw bar in Apalachicola, FL that has a pickle jar of them that has a sign on it that reads "These for your viewing pleasure--not tips for us!"

i imagine it has alot to do with where the oysters come from. Ill bet in some places almost half the oysters have pearls while in most places there arent any at all.
