Here's a good basic coffee maker:

We use the Toddy Cold Brew http://www.toddyproducts.com/shop/product.php?productId=67
One caraf lasts about 2 weeks in our house and makes perfect coffee every time. |
Buy the $14 Mr Coffee 4-cup and taper off and quit drinking coffee. Caffeine is a drug and your body will suffer for the abuse.
If this ruffles your feathers, don't tell me, read about the cytochrome P450 (CYP, P450) detoxification channel in your liver and then you will know. |

I confess, I keep quitting and keep picking it up again. At least I am aware and keep reminding myself. Actually, a lot of my posts are just me talking to myself.

The last thing I heard about coffee was that the best coffee is shade grown. In nature coffee grows as a shrub, under trees. On modern industrial farms coffee is grown in a field like any other crop. So, the story is that shade grown coffee is better.

***Bunn*** They last, they're fast

So far, my longest lasting, fastest, and favorite coffee maker, has been my Melitta coffee maker (I use their filters as well as their coffee).
What takes ordinary coffee makers an inordinate amount of time, this one does in minutes. |

But yes, I was under the same impression....shade grown on estates, hand picked and sun-dried. And if you are going to drink decaf - look for the swedish wet process (SWP) label or simply WP. Who am I kidding, I had 16oz of this fine bean this morning.... http://www.sweetmarias.com/coffee.southamr.brasil.html#Poco_fundo |

Sweet Marias doesn't sell any roasted coffee.......do you have a grinder/popcorn popper? That's all you need to set sail on caffeinated bliss, white boy. I can show you in a couple weeks too....roasting isn't hard at all. Sorry Kuan - I'm hijacking again. We have a Krups drip machine but I haven't used it in 3 years. Does that help?:D |

Coffee brewing temp should be 190F, which is about a slow simmer. If your brewer has a heated carafe, you're screwed from the start - your coffee will be burned before it's done brewing. Brew into an insulated thermos. Most home machines won't get you to 190F. If you start with warm water instead of cold, even a Mr. Coffee will get up to 190F. Starting with warm water, I get 205F using this one. I have to use cold water to keep it at a proper 190F. |
