Good basic drip coffee machine?

This seems to come up every year. I want one that gets the water hot enough to brew good coffee. I don't need timers or other frills. Suggestions?

Bunn or Bruan, YMMV.

BUNN, tomorrow (sunday) is the last day of the 20% off sale on coffee makers at Lowe's, you should be able to get a BUNN for about $80 on sale.

I think I paid $30 for a DeLonghi programmable model at Target. Works great and I am a bit of a coffee snob, pretty picky about quality. Yes, $30 is taking a chance but it worked better than I thought. Also nice that it turns itself on in the morning so its ready when I stumble in the kitchen. RT

Krupps, Braun, Mellita or BOSCH, stick to Germans, they make the best and the coffee has the perfect taste.

... stick to Germans ... that's funny :P

Why don't you try a 'French Press'?

That's where you get the full aroma, besides, it faster.

I use a water heater, heats a quart in about zero point all of a sudden...

Fresh Ground Coffee Beans into the press, let it sit for a minute, stir, press ... and off you go!! Guaranteed!!

Yeah, it's hard to beat the French press! I kmow someone who has recently bought a Senseo coffee makes and likes it very much. It only makes one cup at a time, though.

Kuan 04-13-2008 09:58 AM

I already have a French press. I need an automatic drip for the in-laws when they come visit.

Dee8go 04-13-2008 11:20 AM

Yeah, I guess the French press would be a little labor-intensive for a crowd.

I use the French Press also for daily coffee. If you get a big enough one, you can make coffee for about six people or so. Easy! :)

But you should let the grinds brew for 4 minutes, not 1.

Yeah FIL can't boil water. He wants to do things the "normal" way.

I struggled for years with all of it from Mr Coffee to French Presses to Perculators....this Keurig rocks

Braun or good old Mr. Coffee. I have one of the new Senseo espresso makers witht he coffee pods that i love.

MTI 04-14-2008 04:53 PM

French press + thermos carafe = great coffee nearly all day. Those Bunn-O-Matics are great for high volume dispensing, otherwise they're just continuing to cook the coffee after brewing.

As for boiling the water . . . a good electric kettle is good to have in the kitchen for more than just making coffee. Besides, the best temp for brewing is "off the boil" not boiling.

You all are SO white for discussing coffee like this. Kuan's just performing a social experiment on us.
