Whats the deal with the immature comments here?

The forum has needed relatively little moderation due to the maturity of the members, it has survived tons of sexual innuendo and quips while maintaining decency...until recently. I'm no fuddy duddy and can be as sick as the sickest but MBshop tripped my company's firewall filter, of course they unblocked it for me but is it possible for some people to comment without making some sort of explicit immature content?

E150GT 06-10-2008 01:49 PM

I doubt it.

WVOtoGO 06-10-2008 01:55 PM

For most of us here, yes.

For one in particular, obviously not.

E150GT 06-10-2008 02:02 PM

I never make lewd comments, but I will respond to them. Heck, this forum seems very mild to me, but I work in the electrical industry, and those guys are a dirty bunch of dudes! You don't wanna know what goes on around here.

WVOtoGO 06-10-2008 02:05 PM

Sounds like an aviation maintenance hangar.

Medmech 06-10-2008 02:05 PM

There's nothing wrong with a remark here and there but I think if you did a post count for some people their ratio would be 8 out of 10 posts.

At least most of them are grown ups.

WVOtoGO 06-10-2008 02:10 PM

Yep -

Isn't there an old saying: "If you're always talk'n 'bout it...ya ain't get'n any." ?

Oh well...hopefully we’ll get through without a big ruckus over it all.
I just ignore it best I can.

cscmc1 06-10-2008 02:21 PM

I have noticed the same thing. It's amazing how the least suspect threads can still attract sexual innuendo.

Ha -- ain't that the truth. I just spent the weekend starting phase inspection work on a tanker. The things you hear in passing...

SwampYankee 06-10-2008 02:29 PM

Doubtful. This one just surpassed 10 posts so I'd expect one any minute now.

It’s not AN hardware… It’s F’n AN hardware.
It’s not a gear fitting... It’s a F’n gear fitting.
It’s not bio in the fuel tank... It’s full of F’n Sh-t in there.

Those mouths didn't last too long around here.

Medmech 06-10-2008 02:39 PM

When I asked the IT guy to open the filter he said the ban was because of 'repeat weighted phrase' he went to the culprit posts read them and said 'this guy has issues" LOL.

Dee8go 06-10-2008 02:43 PM

That's interesting! Uh . . . ummm, it wasn't ME, was it?

Doubtful. Probably me. Not that I would care less about what his IT guy says seeing as how he isn't writing my paycheck or sleeping with me (not that I would seeing as he is male).

If it was due to one person, or a very limited number of people, and you put those users on "ignore", would those posts still trip your filter? It could be an option if it causes more problems down the road.

Dee8go 06-10-2008 03:13 PM

Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . .

PaulC 06-10-2008 03:14 PM

That probably would work, but another solution would be using the written word in a less knuckle-dragging fashion.

No, it uses a internet scan engine that weighs the content and bans the website, as I said before the ban was lifted by our IT for me but don't you think its silly that a car forum was blocked to sexual content?

Exactly, an attempt at being cryptic would be a good start..if possible.

MTI 06-10-2008 04:50 PM

Major Strasser has been shot . . . Round up the usual suspects.

Larry Delor 06-10-2008 05:14 PM

A car forum blocked because of sexual content - LOL

Must have been all that talk of getting stubborn nuts off, and tight/loose rear ends.

Hm - whoda thought......

Botnst 06-10-2008 07:29 PM

It was John Doe, the farking barstool! He innuendoed my gefelte fish and made it dradle all over the bidet.

B

vwbuge 06-10-2008 08:06 PM

Honestly for me it has not been the sexual content. (But I do understand your point)
I am coming back less and less because of certain people. There is always one who sticks out in a crowd. The last time it was some young punk kid who has a father that supplies his MB habit. The kid posted on the board and gave advice on stuff he knew nothing about. Someone posted a pic one time and he flat out called their car a POS.

I started coming back and now it is post after post about how drunk someone is getting or how drunk someone got and then how they drove home or didn't get laid or how they hit on someone..... blah, blah, blah. Young immature stuff that I am trying to stay away from.

Sorry, that is my rant, I had to throw my 2 cents in.

t walgamuth 06-10-2008 08:18 PM

When you see Hatties thread about getting drunk, you know, you don't HAVE to open it.;)

Tom W

Hatterasguy 06-10-2008 08:22 PM

Let me know about any offenders, I know of one newer member who I am watching like a hawk.

The forum has been amazingly calm as of late, other than having to threaten to lock a thread here or their nothing. Nate deleted his threads, I'm going to go easy on my drunk threads, so we should be good...

If you remember the member please let me know, I bet its the same buy I am watching.

PaulC 06-10-2008 08:27 PM

I don't want to rat anyone out, but Walgamuth said "Dork".

TheDon 06-10-2008 08:34 PM

kamel??

booobs

Plantman 06-10-2008 08:36 PM

I honestly don't participate as much as I used to because I am so friggin busy, but I always check in and read what's going on with you all.

I have not seen or rather, read too many threads that have too much sexual innuendo but I could care less. I always say they can be ignored if you don't like it.

Now Hattie getting drunk, and posting, that's another matter. If he's sober enough to type, it's good enough for me.

This forum seems to be more balanced than most I've been on. I've noticed that there is a nice share of over fourty people here, as well as some younger than twenty-five people here. Those wide ranges give a nice perspective on many issues.

As on most forums - There are the political and religious ranters here, as well as the jokers and pseudo-intellectuals. There are also quite a few genuinely nice people here. But you have to remember that even nice people can be pretty opinionated. You have to respect others opinions, and I've learned that sometimes by discussing things in a sane way that minds have even been changed. :)

Yes, but there are some here in the late teens to early 20's. Immature to a 39 year old grouch like me. :)

However, the sexual innuendo comments get a little old. Some of them seem a little unhealthy as well.

Whoa, speaking of immature comments, guy didn't sound that bad to me -- he was praising the joint for crise-sake.

PaulC 06-10-2008 08:56 PM

Yes, but from a rather lofty perch.

Hatterasguy 06-11-2008 12:36 AM

I see this forum is like hanging out with my dads friends, all old farts!:D;)

compress ignite 06-11-2008 12:46 AM

Attraction?

"Hanging out with old farts"

Against your will?

Control issue?

Seriously,The only "Gooney" activities of late are two or three individuals, who
can't seem to find the OD area, sniping at each other about nonsense,in the
middle of a perfectly good Post.(A little disconcerting...like having non-linked,
non-stereo,headphones on different frequencies)

t walgamuth 06-11-2008 05:03 AM

Funny it seems like hanging out with a bunch of youngsters to me!:P

All depends on your seat.

E150GT 06-11-2008 08:46 AM

I like the broad range of ages here. It helps to ask someone questions that have been doing this for a long time and have seen everything. Also the younger crowd have tried things that the older wont to like modify a benz. As for the lewd remarks, really it seems to me no worse than regular television has gotten these days, and there really is only about one child that is a member here that I can think of. The thing is that the owner of this site has asked to keep it a clean forum so all ages can talk hare and I think we should keep it that way.

Sniping...???

You mean like the two members just did about my post...?

No matter what you say, SOMEONE will find a way to take issue with it!
They call that being antagonistic.

Cardinal Richelieu was supposed to have said: Give me six lines written by the most honorable of men, and I will find an excuse in them to hang him.

Maybe you are paranoid? Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get you.

Maybe you are not paranoid? Just because you are NOT paranoid also doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get you.
