Hello!

I just jumped on the W126* (edit) bandwagon a couple days ago with a (non-operational) 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD, found these forums and decided to register. Just introducing myself, hoping I can get the car into shape and be able to further utilize the knowledge here

Anyway, hi

It needs a new injector pump. A supposedly functional one was included in the price from the guy I bought it from.

I'm expecting that it'll need some other work done to it as well considering that it's been sitting for about 6 months in a junkyard, but hopefully nothing else too major.

But like I said all I know for sure about right now is the injector pump. I should know more tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum.

Post in the diesel section. Lots of info there...

I doubt your injection pump is bad. That's a pretty rare failure.

Agreed, as is the lift pump failing. Exception is if it is obvious that someone before you has messed with the delivery valves, otherwise opened the IP up or has run SWO or WVO through it.

Start with the basics when you get it. Fuel, compression and air (I always feel GP's should be added to the "basics" list along with a known good battery too).

Check those things out and then ask for assistance on the diesel forum if needed and you'll get more help than you can imagine. Much of it will even be applicable.

Hrm, well either way I've got a new-ish one sitting in my trunk Perhaps if you guys are right I could sell it on here

I will certainly knock out the basics first, thanks for the suggestion. I highly doubt anyone has run SWO or WVO through it, it was owned by a minister previous to my purchasing it. I believe he was the 2nd owner.

I totally plan on using the diesel forum for when I get to work on it. Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Btw, Trakehner, it has not been all that sunny as of late More like insane give-you-a-heart-attack thunderstorms. It's cool though, I rather like it. It's a bit of a rush.

Thumbs up Welcome aboard

For non diesel maintenance tips, and also ANY W126 questions, try the W126 section (I am a moderator there) of www.benzworld.com (best place for the W126er freaks,

and also, give a look at the buyer's guide in www.mbcoupes.com for some maintenance suggestions (I co wrote it back in '98 but it is still pretty good.)

The Diesel Discussion section here is perfect for questions about the cars, too. Real serious knowledge is there. It is "the" place..

I love forums, but it's hard for me to manage the ones I'm a member of already, lol. Which, including this one which I just registered on, totals only 2 haha. So I mean, if I can't find the info I'm looking for here I'll definitely go over and ask, but somehow I have a feeling that for my purposes, right now, the knowledge on this forum will be plenty sufficient. I will definitely take a look at your buyer's guide, thanks a lot!
