Home depot experience / Atlas Shrugged

I went to Home depot last night w/ 3 item on my list...

Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy
Minwax waterbase woodstain (untinted)
3/32" wire rope/cable

Long story short they were sold out of all three and I left empty handed. Now I'm a resourceful fellow, and I am capable of finding a Lowes, but it got me to thinking about Ayn Rands great (except for John Gaults extended monolog) book. Especially because of the wire rope.

Now, I'm not suggesting that my experience is a harbinger of doom for our society, but I am having my servants restock my mountaintop retreat with extra food and supplies.... just in case.

Basically those big stores don't care. They put up a good show during the first year, then they start cutting all kinds of corners. I always expect to be disappointed there due to things being out of stock, wrong size/quality, or the bins and shelves being in total shambles.

While we're on the subject of Home Depot...

Wife and I spotted this anomaly while leaving the store with our purchase...

had a similar experience. Went to Sears to get a particular Craftsman tool, needed paint rollers too, decided to pay a little more and get them on the Sears trip instead of going also to HD. Sears' whole AISLE of paint stuff was EMPTY. Not moved elsewhere, not being restocked or rearranged, EMPTY shelves.

had to go to HD on a Saturday morning (one of the things I truly hate) but at least they had the rollers. Grrr, out of the way trip. What's going on with that?

I was relieved to find everything I needed @ the S philly lowes, apparently society as we know it can continue a bit longer.

BTW that appliance epoxy paint is excellent for metal.

Soviet Union Home Depot. Stock the pantry with Twinkies- they last a lifetime.

These mega stores come to town, price the little guys out of business, and then their service and stock goes to hell, bcause they don't have to give you good ervice anymore. They're the only game in town.

The Gander Mountain by me would be pretty well stocked until a certain time of the year. The information I got was that during a tax season, that is what they do to have less stock in the store. Not sure but maybe there is something to it since it happens every year at the same time.

In any case, I have never found such a happening whenever I am in HD or Menards, etc, etc.

I've seen that sign Gander Mountain, before. Is that a hardware big box, store? Never could figure it out when I was sailing past on I 95 towards Richmond.

That's because you pay tax on whatever you have in stock at the end of your fiscal year that you didn't have there at the end of last year.

So maybe their "out of stock" is also for that reason?

Plus people want stuff cheap. They rather buy a $12 hammer from China at HD, than a $25 American made hammer at a small local store. Sad really.
