W201 Long distance repair....the doctor is in

Only four weeks to early retirement!!! I have decided to can the 64 hour work week and devote all my time to helping others get their cars fixed.

Got an email from a forum member a couple of days ago. He was having trouble with the blower motor in his 190. Hundred degree weather outside and no AC. Yikes!!

Well I never worked on a W201 before so off to the junk yard for some quick lookin' and learnin'.

Wow, seems the blower motors in these cars are a serious problem. The first four I removed were gunked up with dirt and crud. Fans would not even spin. I realize all blower motors may soon get this way, but I have seen better conditioned motors in W123 and W116s. And they seemed to be origonal units as well.

Finally I found a decent replacement. One where the fans continue to spin for a couple of seconds after you spin them with your hand.

Anyway this guy needed some real help and asked if we could go through the steps over the phone. Now he revived his origonal motor with a little cleaning and WD. We tested it wiring the unit directly to his car battery.

Mind you I am sitting in the shade listening to his comments and
straining because he,determined as ever, was working on this car in the dry Palm Springs heat.

A couple of hours later he had AC. And I had a real sense of fulfillment.
