Bored, and in Texas.....

Whats there fun to do here??

I am stuck in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and am looking for something to do...

I have a car, and am mobile, if that helps...

Botnst 08-03-2008 06:11 PM

There's nothing fun anywhere in fly-over country. It isn't worth taking the time to search the Internet.

You can go see the "grassy knoll" where Kennedy was shot.

450slcguy 08-03-2008 06:46 PM

Go buy a cowboy hat and find a bar.

Yes, your wisdom of the DFW area is one to behold!

You've picked a great time to visit..... How'd you like 108 today?
There's a ton to do here...... sadly almost all outdoor activities are unbearable from now until early September.

POS 08-03-2008 10:44 PM

Go to a mall and go crazy?

AdvisorGuy 08-03-2008 11:00 PM

If I'd seen this earlier I'd have invited you over for a cookout & pool. Could have showed you around a bit as well..

That sounds like an interesting view ...

G-Benz 08-04-2008 01:30 AM

A cousin of mine came to Dallas this weekend. My family met hers at the Galleria Mall in North Dallas.

I'm not much of a shopper, but the women outnumbered the men 2-1, so they had their fun!

I didn't mind too much...too darned hot to do anything else!

Hatterasguy 08-04-2008 01:40 AM

Sit in an air conditioned bar and drink?

They have alcohol in TX I would assume, so whats the problem?:D

Jim B. 08-04-2008 03:19 AM

By tomorrow noon I should be in Las Vegas, for a couple of days I think.

If you are coming back then, perhaps I can join you to drive in a caravan back home, which should be of interest if you would like to take a turn behind the wheel of my now modified AMG SEC which *WILL* reach 152 mph without drama, (<-------- which may or may not be true, depending on who asked!!!).:D

I need to detour home through Sacramento, anyhow, to drop off a large box of Mercedes parts BOXED FOR MAILING, Fed Ex to Australia, IN MY CAR NOW, to be shipped to a Benzworld Moderator from there, who got them from yards down here in Los Angeles (Sylmar area) that we visited (and where my speaking only Spanish in these places, helped me greatly!)

I'm not much of a mall rat, but when I do go, there's some eye candy to be seen some of the time.

Rules of Texas :

1. Pull your droopy pants up. You look like an idiot.

2. Let's get this straight; it's called a 'gravel road.' I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.

3. They are cattle & oil wells. That's what they smell like to you. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I-20 and I-10 go east and west, I-35 goes north and south. Pick one.

4. So you have a $60,000 car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 cotton strippers that are driven only 3 weeks a year.

5. So every person in every pickup waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept.

6. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, we WILL shoot it out of your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time.

7. Yeah, we eat catfish & crawfish. You really want sushi & caviar? It's available at the corner bait shop.

8. The 'Opener' refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November.

9. We open doors for women. That is applied to all women, regardless of age.

10. No, there's no 'vegetarian special' on the menu. Order steak. Or you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham & turkey.

11. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper, and Picante Sauce!! Oh, yeah, we don't care what you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat. IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!! Chili was born and bred in San Antonio and real chili never met a bean!

12. You bring 'coke' into my house, it better be brown, wet, and served over ice. You bring 'Mary Jane' into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair.

13. College and High School Football is as important here as the Lakers and the Knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.

14. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards -- it spooks the fish.

15. Colleges? Try Texas Tech, Texas A&M or University of Texas. They come outta there with an education plus a love for God and country, and they still wave at passing pickups when they come for the holidays.

16. We have more folks in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, than any other state, so 'Don't Mess with Texas'. If you do, you will get whupped by the best.

17. Always remember what our great governor Sam Houston once said: 'Texas can make it without the United States, but the United States can't make it without Texas!'

Texas is the greatest state ever!!

Botnst 08-04-2008 09:25 AM

Chili is a bean sauce poured over rice.

Just moved here last October. Haven't had the chance to get to any yet...

iwrock 08-04-2008 01:46 PM

Still bored, and still in Texas....

I found a shop thats going to do the alignment on the car, as well as replace some parts that crapped out on the way here.

jcyuhn 08-04-2008 02:47 PM

So what shop are you using?

FWIW, I don't know what to do either when it's 107 out. I flopped in the backyard pool yesterday, and the dang thing was hot - 90 degrees. Not refreshing at all.

iwrock 08-04-2008 02:48 PM

Autoscope should be able to fix whats going on with the car...

davidmash 08-04-2008 03:48 PM

I went to them once. Their prices are higher than a cats ass. I ended up going to Park Place MB on 183. With my Mercedes club discount on parts and labor, MB was less. Plus I get a loaner car.

Diesel Drag Races on 287 !!!! We'll smoke out half of Tarrant County !! :D

jcyuhn 08-04-2008 05:50 PM

Autoscope is very good, you should be satisfied with the work. They rebuilt the front suspension on my 124. The cost was unbelievable, but so was the result.

The stereotype that this list perpetuates ****** kills me. Someone should get Matthew McConaughey to read it, those two deserve each other.

Does your indie work on BMWs??? If so, I need his number....

Speaking of which, does anyone want to meet up for dinner so I can put some names to faces???? Anyone free like Wednesday??? I got nothing but time, and a car, so lets make this happen.... A 2 hour drive is cool with me...

I'm game! And even if we got the Arlington/Dallas/Fort-Worth/Denton folks to meet somewhere, it shouldn't be more that a 45 minute drive to meet at a central location.

Sweeeet.....

You have any places in mind? I know nothing about the area, other than where both the Frys are, and where my Hotels are at.....

davidmash 08-05-2008 01:09 AM

I am off at 5pm on Wed so that might work. If you like Mexican food, Joe T Garcias in Fort Worth is good. My wife says the margaritas are great. It's right near the Stock yards.

I'll have to ask the wife and see what time she gets home but Wed night might be doable.

DeliveryValve 08-05-2008 02:19 AM

Justin, Go into Dallas and get lost in Deep Ellum. There's plenty of Bars there.... That is if your the drinking type...

Jim B. 08-05-2008 09:42 AM

Are you gonna be in Vegas his week

I am going to be in Las Vegas for a while, so you may want to give me a call on the way back.

Today or tomorrow I will hit their best and biggest and best junkyard and see what Mercedes Benz cars are there, I have been told that there are a lot of them

If you would like to caravan back from there in that BMW don't try and mess with my AMG

Coming out to Palm Springs yesterday, some guy in a brand new 330i did just that, and he tried hard, out of Barstow on I 15.

Over 135 mph I just ran away from him, and he caught me a couple of times when traffic got heavy but once it cleared it was Good Night Nurse and I just ran away from him

The cork is not yet out of the bottle at 152 mph on this 17 year old car

cscmc1 08-05-2008 10:23 AM

If you like BBQ, check out Clark's Outpost in Tioga. If you have a free weekend, you might see about getting a room at the lodge at Ray Roberts State Park. I guess it's a little too hot to be doing much outdoors there right now.

In Dallas, we enjoyed the area down by the Gypsy Tea Room (which I believe closed its doors, sadly). There always seem to be good bands playing at the clubs down there.

davidmash 08-05-2008 01:30 PM

So whats the deal. Are we going to try and meet up tomorrow or what? My wife wants to know what the parameters are. Must be a chick thing, she wants to know if it's a boys night out and she will be a fifth wheel or not.

I'm off at 5p and can probably be where ever we decide on between 630-7p

iwrock 08-05-2008 03:20 PM

I do not know anything about Texas, but a meet at about 6.30PM tomorrow sounds good. The person that I am traveling with is vegetarian, so wherever we go has got to have some sort of vegetarian menu....

Whats a good, central point??? Frys??? (Its the only thing I know how to get to out here....)

E150GT 08-05-2008 03:26 PM

Let me know if you come to San Antonio

A vegetarian in Teaxs? Hell no!! We shoot them for sport out here. Is he wearing body armor?

Hmmm that leaves out Joe T's for sure. Let me ask my wife when she gets home. There was a place we ate at recently that had vegi stuff as well as carnivore stuff.

What Fry's are you referring to? There is one up the street from us on I20 and Matlock in Arlington.

Yeah, thats the one....

We went to Panda Express today to grab food, and the guy working there didnt even know that they still served Tofu.....

In California, Eggplant Tofu is a standard menu item, but over here, the guy had no idea what we were talking about....

iwrock 08-05-2008 04:30 PM

OK, I know where all of the Frys are..... :)

I went to all of them yesterday trying to get a part for my macbook....
